Focus on the Family softens it's Anti-Gay stance (Just a little bit)
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 08:03 AM by ck4829
"Focus on the Family is under fire from fellow conservatives over its support of legislation that would allow legal contracts for all domestic partners.

Senate Bill 166 would make it easier for unmarried couples to qualify for certain benefits, like health insurance. Some conservatives have said they fear the measure would apply to homosexual couples.

Focus on the Family says it agrees with the bill because of human need. The group maintains its opposition to civil unions or same-sex marriage."

Now, I know this isn't marriage or even civil unions FOTF is advocating, but I think it's good that they support SOMETHING, some of the Anti-Gay groups want to pretend that Gay people don't even exist.

Also, we are seeing a divide form between FOTF and the Anti-Gay RW.

"Focus on the Family's James Dobson is responding to conservative critics of his support for a Colorado measure that would extend legal protections to unmarried couples.

On his radio broadcast Thursday, Dobson said he's being unfairly attacked by "conservatives who claim to follow the cause of Christ."

The legislation would allow any two people who can't marry -- everyone from gay couples to elderly sisters -- to sign up and get the right to visit one another in the hospital, transfer property and make medical decisions for each another.

Paul Cameron of the Family Research Institute says Dobson has "come off the tracks" of the Christian movement in backing rights for gay couples."

I am still very opposed to groups like FOTF, but it is nice to see that even they know that Gay people exist and have needs just like everyone else.

1. Follow the Sheep
The rank-and-file Christians are fed up with their Pharisaical "pastors" and have begun back-sassing them en masse. The pastors, in return, have modified their message to match the believers' change of heart.

In some cases, it's sincere. In others, it's simply calibrating the marketing effort for the maximum extraction of cash.
