Democrats should put Telephone Companies on notice....
Their records will be subpoenaed. If they are collaborating with this Adminstration in spying on American citizens, they will be punished to the full extent of the law. We, the People, will not put up with such shenanigans. All the communication giants that have been eavesdropping on American citizens should be fined until their toes hurt and their leaders should face criminal penalties. Put them on notice, Democrats!

1. Good Luck
In order for the Democrats to do anything against the telephone companies, they would have to actually have to be in charge, guess what? They're not!!!

The Republicans control all of the committees that would have the ability to punish any telecommunications company that is giving Bush and the SD access to their facilities. And the companies know this, so they will throw their support behind Republicans in the mid-term elections.

Bet on it!!!!!

6. Nope, I don't buy the "they are stealing elections"
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 11:21 AM by Poppyseedman
We are making strides with the American people, mostly though the ineptness of the BFEE. We have a long way to go.

Living in the fantasy world of republican are evil, democrats are good doesn't address the problems we as a party face and what our message is. We are a party adrift with many different messages being sent out to placate the various bases. Some are fringe and loud. The GOP tells their fringe base to STFU and vote. To the mainstream voter, they communicate a clear simple message most people can identify with and sway them to pull the lever for them.

It's really that freaking simple. They aren't stealing elections, they are beating us in the game of politics.

The american people don't buy into multiple multifaceted messages. We need a core set of principles communicated every day to people outside our base that they can understand and at least know what we stand for.

They do that and we don't.

That's the big difference.

If you're not paying attention to what happened in Ohio and Florida in 2000, you're really deluded.

They own the media, and because of that you will never see how pissed off regular Americans are, and have been for some time.

We have a core set of principles. Most people understand what we stand for. The ones who don't are usually just visiting from another board.

Especially when they condemn Ted Kennedy for drunk driving and defend Laura Bush in the same breath.

8. Doing a little research? Very good.
Hey, I don't fall into lockstep defending a drunk who killed someone and walked away. You can defend that, but I won't.

I happen to live in Florida. I am very well versed on what happened here in 2000. I agree that Florida 2000 can be made into a case of a stolen election. I have researched it quite extensively being from Florida. I have to err on the side of bad election rules and antiqued voting systems that cost Gore the election.

In real life, the 2000 election Gore should have walked away with it. Again, I don't always fall into lockstep with ideologues. I have yet to find that the election was actually stolen. Your beef is with the SCOTUS. It was our to win and we didn't bury the rethugs.

In Florida 2004, we simply got our asses kicked. You can whine all you want about it, but the numbers don't lie. We were out worked and out hustled. The rethugs out registered us by 300,000 new people in Florida.

Ohio 2000, I don't know about.

As for "We have a core set of principles" Which ones? Is it Dean's or Reid or Pelosi who speaks for the party?

I follow our politics every day and know what we stand for, but the average Joe, doesn't have a chance to figure it out.

Yes, I am enjoying my stay. Which board do you think I an am visiting from? I've been here for a while. My politics tend to rub people the wrong way, especially here, as I don't really think the dems or the rethugs in DC are that different. I don't buy into tin foil hat political conspiracies. Politicos have ONE JOB and ONLY one job. Get re-elected. I much rather have Democrats in office than rethugs simply because rethugs tend to forget the less fortunate.

The political parties are just different sides of the same coin. Most people who have followed politics for the number of years that I have (25 years) come to the same conclusion.

Sorry if I offended your sensibilities.

9. I was talking about Ohio
in 2004. Don't be obtuse.

You may have been here for awhile, but that doesn't say anything about your attitudes. There are plenty of people who have been here for awhile but are "just visiting." And I don't have to say the name of the site. In fact, I'm not allowed to here.

Anyone who condemns Ted Kennedy and then turns around and gives Pickles a thumbs up is suspect in my book. It won't matter what else comes out of your mouth. Ted Kennedy is no saint, but anyone who defends that brainless Stepford Wife is an idiot.

11. I was defending what she did at age 17, not her today.

as compared to what Kennedy did as a Senator who had been in office for seven years in 1969 and was 37 years old.

It's not that hard to figure out. As an "idiot" I figured it out.

Don't be obtuse.

Next time I post, I'd check with you to make sure I have the "correct" attitude so I no longer am suspect in your book.

finding ways to reason away why we lose elections.

The democratic party has a huge disconnect with many average people. I honestly think many more people would vote for a democratic candidate if given a vision and reason to pull the lever.

American have a very short attention span. Dean, Reid and Pelosi need to get on ONE message and stick with it.

Bashing bush will only get you so far. You have to give people a reason to support your candidates besides bush is a criminal and you are an idiot for voting for him.

just my opinion

13. I could not agree more, the ironic part is...
I've been called names, and had my loyalty questioned for saying what you did. It's amazing, how many people only give merit to what is said if it starts with something derogatory tward bush. I could not agree more, calling everybody who voted for bush stupid will not make them listen to dems, people will stop listening to "everything is bush's fault, and because you voted for him, it's your fault too" as a message.

I think the true majority of the country is poised and ready for a change in direction on a number of issues. The republican's view, and the democrats calling the republicans stupid, ignorant criminals are all that's out there right now.

I get the feeling that some people here actually believe that the post count number actually reflects others experience or political savy. Hating bush and bush supporters should not be a democratic value, it's a no win senario.

5. too much money, too much influence
even over the dems. although i like to think there is some integrity to the dem side (that which is sorely lacking from the repubs) the money spent by telecom companies has incredible influence.

basically, don't hold your breath.
