Rape in Italy ruled more acceptable when done on non-virgins
Italy's highest court ruled Friday that a man who raped the 14-year-old daughter of his girlfriend can seek to have his sentenced reduced because the girl was sexually active, news reports said.

He requested a reduced sentence, saying the crime was less serious because the girl had already had several sexual partners. Italy's high court said the judges should re-evaluate the decision because the girl "since the age of 13 had had many sexual relations"

"And it's right to assume," the ruling went on, according to ANSA, "that at the time of the encounter with the suspect her personality, from a sexual point of view, was much more developed than what one might normally expect from a girl of her age."

The suspect's lawyer, Andrea Biccheddu, defended the ruling, saying the episode between his client and the girl "didn't provoke any trauma," because the girl had had so many sexual partners.

5. By this standard of logic ..
I could drive drunk and hit someone and then ask for my sentence to be reduced because the victim had a history of DUI. Again WTF!

7. Same kind of things happen in America
where ever defense attorney seeks to include the Rape Victims previous sexual history into the case. Look at the Kobe Bryant case and there have been several others concerning high profile sports stars getting away with sexual assault/rape...

To which I say Holy F*ck!

9. Other Countries with different religious traditions
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 06:06 PM by Traveling_Home
How is a similar situation (rape accusation/guilt) handled in other countries with different religious traditions?

e.g. Non-Catholic Christian
African (Christian)
African (Animistic or other)
Islamic (Sharia) - excuse spelling
Communist (China-Confucian)
Communist (Cuba-Catholic)
Buddhist Shinto (Japan)
and others folks might know

12. Read this
The case goes back to 2001, when a court in Sardinia convicted Marco T. of sexual violence and threats against the 14-year-old daughter of his live-in girlfriend and sentenced him to more than three years in prison, ANSA said.

15. That's the most idiotic logic imaginable
By that logic, if you have ever lent anyone a dollar, I now have license to take any amount of money from you at any time with or without your consent.

If you've ever allowed anyone inside your house, I can walk in any time I want whether I'm invited or not, whether you're home or not.

This is idiotic. If you follow this logic for rape, to be consistent, you have to follow the same logic for everything. Therefore nothing is a crime because at one time or another we have lent money and things to people, invited people into our homes, gave them the keys to our cars when we were too drunk to drive. By this logic, if we've ever invited someone to do something, that invitation extends to everyone else and can never be rescinded.

Rape. There is NEVER a justification for it. Ever.
