I found this LTTE--from a retired DOD employee--in my hometown newspaper, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (population 250,000).
The town is a mixed bag of socioeconomic backgrounds, but there is a lot of money in Cedar Rapids, many fundies and a large conservative contingent.
I was surprised (and elated) to read this LTTE, and I thought it might perk up some of you as well. God knows we need all of the perking we can get right now, right?
(Note: I edited out the author's name and hometown. I would feel bad if he was harassed by a lurking freeper--because I posted it here). ------------------------------------------- A BETTER LEADER WOULD HAVE SOUGHT PEACE
Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have a real man as president? Why not a retired combat marine who would know how to negotiate peace, such as Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa? America lost its way when George Bush became president. Had Al Gore or John Kerry been elected, I am sure America and the world would not be in the mess we are in.
Kerry’s wife would be such as asset to this country, speaking five languages. As it is we have a president who can barely speak English. He yells at us like he is still using his bullhorn. Guess he thinks he’s still cheerleading.
I live in fear, as do other parents, wives and siblings of soldiers, of military personnel knocking at my door to tell me news of my son in Iraq, serving his second tour in the Reserves. I wish Laura and Barbara Bush had to experience this. More emphasis on establishing peace could be accomplished had the individuals in this present White House seen combat or even been in the service, as Murtha said.
As a retired Department of Defense employee, I am disheartened to see what has happened to our country. Many of my friends and colleagues are, too. But as for this happy-go-lucky individual was elected, we are now beginning to see the corruption within. As long as he and his are out of harm’s way, everything’s OK.
What hypocrisy.
Impeachment would be too good for this president. JS xxxx, Iowa
