Rove's Big Mistake: "Angry Left" more Macho than "Silent Majority"
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 02:27 PM by KoKo01
Anyone remember Nixon's "Silent Majority?"

CNN Cold War - Historic Documents: Nixon's 'Silent Majority' Speech
And so tonight -- to you, the great silent majority of my fellow Americans -- I ask for your support. I pledged in my campaign for the presidency to end the ...
www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/episodes/11/documents/nixon.speech/

The slogan was carried forward in the Media by Falwell and Buchanan and all the Repugs for Decades. It eventually morphed into the "Moral Majority," that that we deal with today in one form or another but with different names depending on which Think Tank is writing the Talking Points.

The Moral Majority, according to the Columbia Encyclopedia (Sixth Edition, 2001), is a "U.S. political action group composed of conservative, fundamentalist Christians. Founded (1979) and led (1979-87) by evangelist Rev. Jerry Falwell, the group played a significant role in the 1980 elections through its strong support of conservative candidates. It lobbied for prayer and the teaching of creationism in public schools, while opposing the Equal Rights Amendment, homosexual rights, abortion, and the U.S.-Soviet SALT treaties. The Moral Majority was dissolved in 1989." <1> (http://www.bartleby.com/65/e-/E-MoralMajo.html)

QUESTION:

So...since some of us Democrats are now branded the "Angry Left" how far do you think we can morph that one to our own Dem Advantage? I kind of like Angry Left because it just might gain some recruits given the way the things are going downhill for the Bushies lately in the minds of most Americans.

"While there there may well be parallels between the rise of Hitler and fascism and what's happening today in the U.S., those Red State folks, who we really need on our side if we are going to scourge our country of this gang, just don't get it.

On the other hand, characterizing them as outlaws -- which they are -- just might sell. What the Dems need is the political and non-violent equivalent of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday go after those "red-sash" curs with the simple, straight forward message that Bush & Co. are the bad guys. My money is on Al Gore -- I personally think he'd look great in black 10-gallon hat and a duster."

18. CNN hack Bill Schneider did a piece on "Angry Voters" last week.
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 02:40 PM by KoKo01
He was discussing a Gallop poll that showed that BOTH Dem and Repug voters were Angry. He kept using that word to describe all the issues that voters were angry about and saying that the numbers were equal for both Dems and Repugs in the survey. He said voters are angry with Congress and both parties and that meant "Watch Out for incumbents in '06." (his quote)

I had thought someone would post it on DU because Schneider is usually attacking Dems but I didn't see anything. Still that he was ranting on about Angry Voters sure does make it seem that we Dems could run with ANGRY LEFT and use it to our advantage in the coming years.

We are definitely going to have alot more to be Angry about given the way the Bushies are still going full steam ahead to drive the country into ruin.

5. We can morph this to our own Dem advantage if the prissy
party conservatives will keep their big fat mouths shut for one time in their prissy lives.

Anger is what the rank and file Democrats have been feeling for a very long time. Anger is the appropriate response to men who throw us out of good jobs and expect us to live on starvation wages doing retail. Anger is the best response to men who start wars of corporate convenience and get our kids maimed or killed. Anger is the best response to men who are hell bent on destroying everything that was ever great about this country. Anger is the best response to men who lie, cheat, and steal to get whatever they want and try to tell us how godly they are.

"Angry left" sums my feelings up just fine, thank you, and I'm pretty sure it sums up the feelings of people who are considerably to the right of me, all the way into moderate

And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible・
It feels so good to be back..]

Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel, reenergize, and rewind
I give sight to the blind, mind sight through the mind
I ostracize my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I知 gonna whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi task
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft slash
Entrepreneur who has held long too few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let's all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors, come on

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we're responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength, and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme, just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply it by six
Teen million people are equal of this high pitch
Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it's all lies, the stars and stripes
They've been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you'll know why, because I told you to fight

So come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

48. It's always taken guts to be a liberal
Our side has had JFK, RFK and MLK all gunned down in their primes. Who have they lost via assassination that way?

We're the ones that get called unpatriotic traitors for opposing Vietnam then & Iraq now. Were those for those wars branded similarly?

We're the side that gets the angry anonymous phone calls if we write a LTTE, or gets the glares if we have an anti-Nixon or anti-Reagan or anti-Bush bumper sticker on our car. Does the opposite happen to them?

we're the ones with very little voice in the media.

We're the ones challenging the status quo and trying to bring change for the benefit of the majority.

We're the party that led our nation to victory in WW1 and WW2 and also out of the Great Depression.

So, it takes some guts to be a part of the "angry left"
