GOP Governors Threaten to Block Port Deal
GOP Governors Threaten to Block Port Deal
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

<snip>New York Gov. George Pataki and Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich on Monday voiced doubts about the acquisition of a British company that has been running six U.S. ports by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates.

The British company, Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., runs major commercial operations at ports in Baltimore, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia.

Both governors indicated they may try to cancel lease arrangements at ports in their states because of the DP World takeover.

"Ensuring the security of New York's port operations is paramount and I am very concerned with the purchase of Peninsular & Oriental Steam by Dubai Ports World," Pataki said in a news release. "I have directed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to explore all legal options that may be available to them."<snip>

5. Bush is either with America, or against us!
Looks like he's against us and for the ones backing the terra. Looks like, bye-yumping-Yemeni, that all our ships in port will all be about as safe as the USS Cole was in 2000...

I think that the famous "Little Boy" would have fit inside a shipping container, without any trouble and then I think about the USSR's missing suitcase sized nuclear weapons and the damage they could do.

Snip>

For on August 6, Little Boy released it's awesome power and destroyed Hiroshima. Tadataka's mother survived the initial blast and made her way to the reception center in Miyajima, where it seems that she was fine and in fact began immediately helping the burn victims. Unfortunately she was victim to the radiation poisoning, and began suffering terrible internal pains. She had someone pencil a message on a postcard to her son saying, "I am in the reception center in Miyajima. Come here immediately."

Tadataka and his teacher managed to find his mother in the reception hall which became a de facto hospital. Although he tried to tend to his mother's burn wounds, the radiation from the bomb caused his mother's insides to dissolve. He tended to his mother as tenderly as possible, but finally nothing could save her.

Tadataka puts it best in his own words: "At lunch-time on 4 September, the third day, Mother started to writhe in pain. Her unusual action completely upset me. All I could do was to absentmindedly look at my suffering Mother. After suffering for 30 minutes, she regained her calmness. However, it was the last calmness, the of the end of life. I continued calling her name, clinging to her body. Tears welled up in the eyes of my speechless mother and tears rolled down her cheek. I wondered if the tears were from the sorrow of eternal parting between mother and child or from an anxiety about my future. I shall never forget the tears of my Mother I saw on that day."

(Recollection by Tadataka Kuribayashi and submitted for the 1994 A-Bomb anniversary to the Radiation Effects Research Foundation)

4. Turning the ports over to al Qaeda supporters was stupid.
Protecting the ports is something the government should do. But the Bushies want a profit-motivated corporation to protect us. But not an American company (not even Halliburton) - he outsources the task to a foreign company. A foreign company owned by a foreign government. And not just any foreign government - he turns over our ports to the freakin' United Arab Emirates, a country known to have sympathized with the 9/11 hijackers!

Why not put Osama in charge of our schools? Let's get that al-Zarqawi guy and make him Secretary of the Interior!

And now we find out that military equipment will be shipped through these ports, meaning that the government of the UAE will know about our military moves in advance, something American citizens are not allowed to know.

For some reason, our local Columbus paper covers this story on page A7 every day (including today). I think this is even more significant than Cheney shooting his friend in the face - it should be on page 1 soon.

6. Here again we see a fundamental
constitutional issue - states' rights versus the Feds.
Get Up Stand Up, stand up for your rights. This is wholesale looting by Bushco.
