Amazing: Bill Clinton had a 60% approval rating...
If you believe it, he had an approval of 65% in the summer of 1998!

Doing the math, it would mean that some of Clinton's 65% or 60%+ are also giving Bush* (40%) their approval.

I can't imagine who would be supporting both Clinton and Bush*.

1. My dumbass Security Mom friend would be one.
She voted for Clinton and Gore because she's pro-choice but in 2004 "there was a war going on." (Really need a head exploding smiley thing to insert here)

13. Haven't had a chance to talk to her yet
I'm sure she's gotten the RW talking points about it by now though. Besides, as long as we're fighting them in Iraq they won't attack us anywhere else! :sarcasm:

2. Same people who do anything to get tickets every year for a sports team
No offense to sane sports fans, just to the insane, eat lobster for a month and wear silly clothes people.

That level of dedication is beyond real reason. It's in the realm of the fanatic. Same thing here with ticket bouncers. They don't think. They merely react.

3. Even with relentless media against the Clinton "scandals" his
approval rating hung around 60%. I'm not sure why people in that group voted for Bush. He certainly fooled some the first time around but even with a "war" going on, I think the same people who voted for him the first time wanted to show us they were right all along.

7. Why is this news to anyone posting here?
I don't mean to insult you specifically, mediaman007, but it depresses the hell out of me to think that the right-wing riff of "disgraced impeached evil Clinton" has such resonance that anyone, anywhere, fails to recognize that

1) Americans, mostly, saw the impeachment as a cheap shot, and

2) given their opportunity to weigh in on it via the midterm elections, bitch-slapped Congress for impeaching Clinton.

Every time some wingnut brings up Clinton's impeachment, bring up the damn '98 midterms. Every time.

And don't forget to mention that a solid majority still think Clinton did a good job:

9. I'm really not hitting on Clinton's approval rating, but rather I'm
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 11:33 AM by mediaman007
wondering how people can support Clinton, then go 180 degrees and support Bush*. Its not like they have anything in common.

(I'm just noting that Clinton had a 65% approval rating and Bush* is at 40, so some must support both.) I really don't give much thought to Clinton's impeachment, other than it was a setup.

edit for spelling

10. well, y'see, I'm kinda thick
and didn't really get your point, but now that I do it's a pretty interesting one, and I've wondered that myself.

I think there's a segment of the population that just respects the office of the president so much that they'll say they're behind him no matter what.

And most of us are capable of falling into that category momentarily, I guess... like, say, if we're attacked by fundies who destroy the WTC. If you'd polled me on September 14, 2001, and asked me if I approved of Bush's presidency, I'd probably have joined the other 91% who said "yes."

And I'd never liked the guy.

11. not me...I'm the skeptic, I can't believe that we pay billions of dollars
for air defense, and not one plane was close enough to even see one of the jet liners! Then, nobody gets fired!

Poor people are fired for stealing paper clips.

14. Clinton had a 30% higher approval rating than Bush does now
at the time he was impeached.

I heard that on C-SPAN this morning.

Never really thought about it that way, but I guess it's like 69% - 39%.

That's heartening, but we've still lost three elections in a row. Republican ownership of the voting machines and the mainstream media appears to be worth alot more than just a few percentage points.
