This port issue might finally bring back the "security" Democrats...
It's not the Republicans we need to try to win over. It's the former Democrats that have left the party for a more "safe" one.

Most people know that Iraq was a disaster. Everyone knows that Bush failed to get Bin Laden. In their hearts, most people realize that Bush is creating more terrorists than he's killing. Our problem has been convincing people that all of these things is making less safe at home.

Well, now the Administration has done something that may hurt us at home. Will it translate into Republicans coming over to our side; I doubt it, but it may wake up all of the pre-911 Democrats.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

1. Dupe post (mine), different thread
This could be an ideal opportunity for the democratic leaders to show America that they are more concerned about the nation's security than the almighty dollar. But I see another bending over and grabbing the ankles as with the war, the Roberts confirmation, the Alito confirmation, etc.
A little bit of squawking so they can fool their voters at home but no serious actions.

4. You're right, but...
They could ignore Katrina as not being a "terrorist" issue (ridiculous logic, I know).

5. Standing by and allowing a major American city to be wiped out, when
the event was known DAYS in advance, and doing nothing for DAYS even after the event had begun, IS national security.

What if the levee had been blown up by terra-ists instead of Katrina? We'd get the same do-nothing result (probably worse, because of no advance warning) and only then it'd be a problem because it was terra-ists?

6. Relax, I agree with you.
I was referring to the "security" Democrats. In THEIR logic they could pretend that the Katrina disaster was nothing more than a natural disaster. In THEIR minds they wouldn't see it as a "terrorist" issue.

8. THE PORT ISSUE

this is one of the biggest foolhardy move this administration has allowed.
if "the president and his cabinet" do not squash this deal to let the arabs run our ports(umke)
we will lose our port security. the port authority is the one who hires and fires the workers
on the line. this includes long shoreman, port inspectors etc.
is this administration so corrupt that there willing to out source our port security to a foriegn nation for money?
it's us the little guy who keeps this nation afloat. wake up america -raise hell -call your congressman. call your senator, and call your local party office.

7. I come from a large repug family- All highly educated and,
to tell you the truth, I think that they just barely stayed with Bush in 2004. Yes, they stayed because they felt that he was probably the one who would keep them safest.

However, at that time I remember talking with many of them and, it was NOT a strong feeling that they had.

*Co and the repugs have pushed this meme. It is not necessarily so that the public sees them as better on security. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY SAID. Just like they said that the repugs had a lock on the spanish speaking pop'n. My husbands very large spanish-american family thinks that is just laughable. They see right thru this BS.

Repugs control the press and the polls. The sooner the sheeples wake up to the fact that they are the MAJORITY the better.

9. KATRINA-THE BUNGLED LEADERSHIP[
the head of homeland security still is in office; they fired the head of fema,as they should have
48 hours after the storm hit. not a month. but they left the head of homeland security alone.
just another bungled move by this administration. the answer is they have "yes" men in every department. why am i writting this post,we still have un used mobile homes(trailers ) setting in
ark. he can't cut the red tape. he useless, unable to lead.unable to handle a situation of need.
but thats not all he agrees to the arabs taking over our port authority. guess what,he's one of the people that have to vote on this move.
DEMAND HIS ASS BE FIRED! DEMAND HIM TO BE REMOVED: WE NEED QUALIFIED PEOPLE IN RESPONSIBLE POSTIONS SUCH AS DEPARTMENT HEADS: HE'S ALREADY PROVED HE'S NOT THE ONE TO BE IN CHARGE!
