Democratic Response?
I dont know if this is old but it appeared in my inbox today and I was wondering if there was a Democratic Response similar to the Ant and the Grasshopper story. It would make life easier to hit reply all if there is one.

Subject: Father Daughter Talk

Father Daughter Talk

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Li ke so many

others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat,

and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a

feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had

participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that

her father had for years harbored an evil,

selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes

on the rich and the addition of more government welfare

programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the

truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she

was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather

haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to

maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and

was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like

other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many

college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is you friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes,

she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on

campus, college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the

parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because

she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office

and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who

only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that

would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired

back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my

grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has

done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail

off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the

Republican Party."

1. This doesn't fly because when was the last time you saw a
repug actually work for their wealth? They all got it the old fashioned way they inherited it from someone who made it on the back's of blue collar workers.

2. Some of that cutesy fiction the repukes send out to pump up the kool-aid
people.
The Democratic father would have suggested to his daughter that maybe she should help her room mate study by including her and tutoring her.
The republican assholes are all about me and now.

3. Day in the life of Joe Middle Class Republican
http://tvnewslies.org/html/day_in_the_life_of_joe_middle-.html

<snip>

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

4. The response is obvious ...
... it's the lazy-assed Audrey, who drinks, snorts coke, and parties her way through college, who winds up rising in the ranks of GOP politics.

Just like one G.W. Bush, who did EXACTLY that during his college days.

6. If the daughter worked hard for her good grades
she couldn't possibly be a republican. Another irony, Audrey sounds like a sorority slut daughter of a republican with connections. Audrey doesn't need to study, the right wing network will take care of her after four years of fornication and alcohol abuse.

the republican played while me (the liberal) worked by tail off.

Dad no doubt is a racist homophobe, ashamed of his daughter's enlightened view of right and wrong.

8. They might as well change Audrey's name to Jenna...
and then this fiction would be a reality.

7. Those compare perfectly...

:eyes:

What if her friend needed a 2.25 to stay in college her last semester and graduate. It would allow her to get a job in her field and she would be able to help support her family. What if the girl in the story only had to give up the .25 to help her through that last bit? So she would have a 3.75, more than enough to go on to graduate school and be very successful. If she doesn't want to do that, then could she at least talk to her friend and try to help her manage her time better? Could she introduce her to a study program that the Commie University set up to help such students (by taking money from the other girl's tuition)? The email is obviously trying to skew the idea of helping out others who may be in need.

9. The story has a good point but,
take away the partying all night lingo, And lets say the girl with a 2.0 was working her ass off and all she was able to come up with after all her hard work was a 2.0. The story would have a different ending. No? The fact that the girl in this story does not care if she has a 2.0, thats the difference.

Now if girl no two was trying her best and she still only got a 2.0 girl number one may give up that point possibly and or lend a helping hand to girl no 2 to help her achieve a higher GPA.

Thats the difference between the D & R the Republican would let her stay at 2.0 regardless. My two cents.

10. it comes from several republican false givens.
A republican feels, as a given, that:
1. ...social programs are misused by lazy, worthless people
2. ...liberals are generous with govt. money but stingy with their own
3. ...that liberal policies are inherently unfair because they are communist in nature

so this analogy depends on accepting those false givens to make any sense.

instead, I would counter with REAL givens:

1. The largest misuse of govt. funds comes from the corruption and pork of republicans. Social funds are predominantly well used by people who need them. The republican myth of "welfare mothers" abusing the system are in reality so miniscule as to be anecdotal rather than statistical. If you'll note, they'll always bring up the "case where that welfare mother..." citing an isolated case, but they can never bring actual percentages to the table on how the system is misused. But, even so, to give them some slack, EVEN IF 9% of social programs were misused, that means 91% of the people are getting it that should. The reality is republicans are not really outraged at the 9%, they are in fact outraged at the 91%.
2. Republicans consistently dole out graft and bribes and tax breaks to corporations, the military industrial complex, and lobbyist causes. There is no one more generous with govt. money than republicans..the difference is they view the recipients as "good for america". So, when Halliburton disappears 8 billion dollars in Iraq, its ok, because they're good people. I guarantee you no welfare mother is walking off with ill gotten billions. If republicans were TRULY concerned with cheats, they'd go after Halliburton in a heartbeat.
3. the example of spreading out the GPA is thinly disquised pinkocommie liberal baiting. Its not true, and it doesn't apply to liberal policies. Liberals believe a responsible society takes care of those who cannot take care of themselves. Republicans, on the other hand, believe those who cannot take care of themselves should not be the responsibility of society. For example: Reagan was the first to defund care for the mentally ill, and the increase in homelessness was a direct result. Many institutions closed down or scaled back due to lack of funding, and the mentally ill, who could not care for themselves, ended up on the street.

Therefore, I reject this cutesy attempt to slam liberals because it is based on false premises and the intent is to say "see? you're just as selfish as we republicans" , which I always find an ODD argument because it means on some level republicans are admitting their moral depravity, but their excuse is so is everyone else, as if that fixes the problem.

republicans cannot think straight, frankly.

12. How about 60s Yale Students that got 4.0s
or those that got beat out by moron "legacy students" who never worked but never worked in the next 30 years and still got rich...

or how about that lady who works three jobs to keep a float with one handicapped child that is "so American?" How about her?

Its about having a safety net, but those who work hard get rewarded for their good work, and those who don't chose to work 15 hours a day can have a nice life without blistered feet meanwhile the President's little brother gets "bailed out" by corporate "entitlement programs" How about that?
