besides...you know, the one the GOP is trying to create here? I know there are plenty of nations run by Islam but none that I know of that are Christian.

10. Not really......
Many of the Poles are Catholic and it is important to them, but they do not live under Vatican laws, it is a secular country but it is not a Theocracy. Eire comes to mind, the Catholic Church is very powerful and does influence law making, such as abortion rights.
The UK does have the Church of England but it has little influence in most peoples laws, which is why we have legalized guy "marriage" and abortion is not under threat.

3. Germany voted in the Christian Democrats...
I don't know anything about them though, plus they're sharing power with another party.

4. I suspect not since the Enlightenment
Were colonies like Rhode Island even full theocracies? Theocracy is rule by cleric, not just the existence of a state church or a few places in the legislature reserved for priests.

5. Rhode Island was never a theocracy
The Baptists were insistent on separation of church and state....back then, at least.

6. In practice, only the Vatican.

Although technically the head of state here in the UK is the Queen, who is also the head of the official religion, the Church of England.

7. even so German is "secular", meaning
you don't get tax breaks if you're a church or a faith-based organization.

"Christian" in Europe does not necessarily mean "Proselytizing Holy Roller" like it would here if you stuck it on a party name in the states.

8. Massachusetts Bay Colony was close......they even executed some
Quakers, I believe.......Ann Hutchinson and Roger Williams had to leave or convert

until recently it was conceded that Calvin established a theocracy in Geneva......now many internet sites contest that (b/c they don't want the negative view of Calvin's Geneva to affect what their groups are trying to create now??????)

15. "The Lord's Resistance Army" in Uganda is making a run for it...
Childhood's End
For 19 years, Joseph Kony has been enslaving, torturing, raping, and murdering Ugandan children, many of whom have become soldiers for his "Lord's Resistance Army," going on to torture, rape, and kill other children. The author exposes the vicious insanity—and cynical politics—behind one of Africa's greatest nightmares
