"The Fish and Wildlife Service added that numerous conservation efforts by state, federal and tribal entities are under way to protect the Yellowstone cutthroat.

In 2001, the agency found that a petition to list the fish under the Endangered Species Act did not show the protection was justified. Several environmental groups then challenged the agency's finding by filing a complaint in U.S. District Court.

The groups denounced the agency's latest decision Monday, calling it another example of the Bush administration putting politics before science."

1. Do they know what it is?
Or do they think it's a serial killer seeking clemency?

2. The native cutthroat
Is already protected in at least one stream in OR, but has been at/near total extinction in most streams that used to have abundant populations. They could have never been fished out but have been destroyed by planting larger alien fish. The cutthroat begins spawn very young and while still under 7-8 inches. These become "incredible edibles" for the 12-24 inch "planters" of many hybrid varieties from the hatcheries.
