Bush vetoes, GOP cry foul, Citizens rally around GOP...
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 06:14 PM by kpete

I just had a Rovian hotflash! Am I paranoid or what?

There has to be a reason for this ridiculous stance.

Money yes, arrogance yes, stupidity of course, but what else.

Frist, Hastert, Fox, even Hannity are crying foul.

What if Rove's plan is to set the GOP up to be HEROS to the American people just in time for elections 2006.

1. Nope.
Bush = head of Republican party. It shouldn't be too difficult for the Democrats to frame this one.

2. I wish.
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 06:18 PM by NanceGreggs
I wish this whole thing was just political strategery(!) But it's not.

Besides, Rove would never set up the Republicans as 'heroes' at the expense of Bush. And this WOULD be at Bush's expense. He would be made to look like a fool in front of the country, and in front of his own party, if his 'own' turned on him and he backed down as a result.

3. Hmmm...
That's an interesting theory. Or... * proceeds with the veto and the GOP "produces" the two-thirds needed to override and as you predict they are the "heroes".

Dems better be on the lookout.

7. Nope ,to easy for Dem's to say "We told you so, now come join us"
If Bush opens up exactly to how how they deemed these ports transferable without risk then this thing could blow over, of course this is unlikely to happen as backdoor deals are likely part of this whole scheme.

9. Either way, the GOP loses
Bush = GOP

GOP = Bush

They probably do have something up their sleeves, but I can't imagine them sacrificing Bush at this stage. Unless, of course, they know that he won't make it until the end of his term...

If that's the case, they might be willing to sacrifice him to salvage whatever they can. Who knows. The whole lot of them need to go find something else to do. Maybe the UAE needs some help? ;)

11. Well, they already blew it for any thinking person by claiming
...the Shrub didn't know about this ports deal till "a few days ago". How likely is that considering the players? Treasury Secretary John Snow, whose dept signed off on the deal, and David Sanborn, selected by Bush last month to head the U.S. Maritime Administration and who also just happens to run Dubai Ports' European and Latin American operations.

Rove may have a plan like you describe. Too bad there aren't many thinking people in Congress or on the ground in this country who would look at the information above and see right through it to its dirty core.

12. Bush Vetoes
There is only one explanation for all of this nonsense. An individual has common sense and logic or they don't! There is no in between. It is a proven fact that Bush and his top people don't have it! Any person that has it does not need an explanation of why this deal with the UAE is simply not logical.

your theory would not surprise me at all.

In fact, we've been waiting for the GOP Great White Hope.

15. That could well happen, but not by design
These people don't give a shit about anybody but themselves. You really don't understand Republicans if you think they sacrifice anything for someone else, even their fellow Republicans.

Republicanism is a loose federation of greed. They are all in it for themselves. If you can align with those in power to get more for yourself while they are grabbing more for themselves, then good for you. If not, then that's your tough luck.

It may work out politically that way, but the Bushies aren't hurting themselves for anyone else.

18. I think this shit was designed to get some support for the sinking GOP.
They need a couple of issues to use to distance themselves from Bush. However, on matter that really do affect ordinary citizens, the GOP will NOT fight FOR the ordinary citizen, no matter what!
