already here on DU a number of threads are indicating it sniffs of Rovian tactics, others say it is a pure * blunder, still others that it is a bone to throw to neutralize the Gore comments, etc. This is a GREAT place because open minded people can discuss this in all sorts of ways. I think that we really need to be careful - this just does not smell right to me. It is all too easy....good time to be very cynical (the past 6 years have been good for cynics, but we seem to go from opportunity to opportunity!)

Social Security privatization is a GOP favorite, but while the Democrats crowed about shooting it down (essentially by doing nothing), Bush got to ram through all other kinds of stuff more or less under the radar.

just making this up as they go along. Then again....it is hard for me to believe anything out of any politican's mouth, as well as anything I see on TV or read. The current misadministration has just been an incredible array of incompetence that has been enabled by the media and majority of the public, which is inexcuseable.
