Methinks thou doth protesteth too much
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 07:00 PM by linazelle
Sorry but the port debacle smells fishy to me.

The news readers are expressing outrage on every channel. They are all asking the same questions. Bush is not backing down :eyes:(I have to give it to that fucking moran, he is consistently stubborn).

Frist is threatening to "introduce legislation" to stop it. :eyes:

I am more afraid of all the cacophony from ReTHUGlicans who seem to have awakened from a deep slumber than I am afraid of the actual sale of our ports. :scared:

1. the only veto
he's threatened with in 5 flopping years is to allow torture and allow the UAE control of our critical ports. So go figure.

4. He also threatened to veto creating the DHS in July 2002
If it would not allow him to do union-busting on government employees working at the new DHS. Unfortunately he ultimately got his way after convincing voters in November to vote against Congressional Democrats (especially Max Cleland) who stood up for workers.

2. Yes, be ever vigilant...
Who knows what "they" will pull next.

When something looks too good to be true, it most probably is! And the awakening of the sleeping repug masses fits this.

7. Good read. It's purely political--THAT's the real story
I wish the same outrage wasted on this crap would be generated if it were revealed that this story was purely political.

5. Nah, That's Just Paranoia.
Not your fault though, we've seen enough from these criminals to make being paranoid legitimate.

Fact is though, this rage is real. Bushco is blindsided by this one as they thought as usual the sheep would follow. They didn't. They misjudged, again.

This one's on the up and up, though in the end the repubs may turn around and say "ok, they've satisifed us they will be secure". Not so sure though, cause I think they realize this will haunt them come voting time.

8. If he were blindsided, why is he refusing to veto then?
That makes no sense. If he was caught unaware, then he now has a chance to set things right--he's not trying to change a thing. Why wouldn't he change this?

10. Because It's Too Far Gone Now.
Not to mention that he had his own greedy evil agenda to begin with and as we all should know on here by now, nothing stops him from going forward with those agendas.

He just didn't think his own party would turn against him on this one. But when it comes to it, it is his evil greed that takes priority, not whether congress agrees with him.

9. I agree....

... they miscalculated. Bush either thought nobody would ever find out, or that nobody would care. But Americans are pretty thick but they "get" that we don't need terrorist-sponsoring countries running our ports.

I claim this is going to pull the scales from the eyes of a couple million more Americans, Americans that thought that this administration was actually fighting a war on terror but now see that it is all a big joke.

12. I believe you are right in that the "story" will not make them popular
But they don't do popular. Popular doesn't matter to them--they own the voting machines.

As for the story, it's contrived. I believe that they are trying to demonstrate that the Executive Branch has not totally gotten out of control. And the gullible among us will believe that this passion play demonstrates that point.

See Bill protest. Bill protests loud.

14. This whole thing still sounds like a Rove operation to me.
Every poll out there shows Democrats are poised to take back at least one and possibly both houses this year. And all the rubber stamps are going down because of the chimp.

The chimp is a lame duck, but if we take back even one house of Congress, they'll be spending a lot of time investigating these crooks. This gives them something to campaign on besides their horrendous record. "Hey! see what I did! I stopped the Ayrabs from taking over our ports! Bill Clinton wanted to let them do it. So did Hillary!" (When did the truth ever get in the way of a good Republican lie?)

Vote for me I tried to save you. And I gave Mrs. Alito a hanky after the Democrats made her cry.

Sounds like pure Rove to me.

16. Remember their little "meeting" a week or so ago??
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 07:30 PM by SoCalDem
Maybe this was their coup de gras...

They get to be all blustery and BRAVE..jousting with the manly war president..and overriding his mean ole veto..

They come off as brave and gutsy

dems come off as obstructionists if the repubes bail out on the override

or

as "me-toos" if they DO the override..

Bush wins either way, since none of this was HIS idea to start with, and in a very short time, he'll be biclycling and napping and playing with the dogs..He's not running for anything again.

He's tossing his homies a bone, so they'll look tough..
