Could Portgate be a stunt to help Republican Congress members in 06?
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 11:14 PM by TwoSparkles
I'm having a hard time believing that Junior would be THIS stupid.

Something is not right. I'm telling you--there is more to this debacle than what is happening
on the surface.

Karl Rove orchestrates every move Junior makes. This move is cartoonish--so over the top. Are we supposed to believe that Junior is going to fight like hell to allow an Arab country--which has 9/11 connections and recognizes the Taliban as the official government in Afghanistan--to manage our ports?

I'm betting that this stunt was orchestrated for some underlying means.

Who knows what they're doing, but here's my guess:

The Republicans recently met--behind closed doors--to discuss the dire straights in which they find themselves. They know they're screwed going into 06. The polls indicate obliteration for the Republicans--and it's all tied to the pResident's unpopularity.

Junior doesn't care what the peasants think of him--and he doesn't have to win an election again. He can fall on the sword to keep control of Congress--which is essential for his political survival. Possibly, this entire stunt was orchestrated to create a platform for Republicans who need help with their 06 elections. If several Republicans come out fighting against Junior and against this port deal--they can distance themselves from Junior's unpopularity and make themselves appear "strong on terror." These Republicans could not be so easily tied to Junior during their re-elections. In fact, they would look like stand-up guys--heroes.

I say we watch this thing closely--and keep track of the Republican politicians that emerge as Junior's biggest detractors.

9. Funny, I saw his government collapse today.
Perhaps it was an hallucination.

3. If that's the case, this is all likely to backfire on the GOP.
Because any Democrat with even a tenth of a brain is going to run on the Democrats VS George Bush platform this November. That's the winning campaign from New York City to Macon Georgia.

4. Yes, it doesn't seem to make sense... why use your first veto ever, to
support something that NO ONE is in favor of? Hmmm...

13. Well remember the torture bill
He was going to veto that as well but he caved after "talking" with John McCain. I wonder if that will happen here after the "republican leaders" have a "talk" with him.

5. Yes. It certainly could be so don't let them get away with it. The
Republican members of Congress are traitorous criminals and we need to treat them as such.

6. There was a caller on CSPAN when this first happened
who said they were a republican for all their life and voted republican but now because of this they wouldn't be supporting them. Canofun.com/blog has this video up (it's where they say they'd vote for humpty dumpty first)

7. We don't call him 'Bubble Boy' for nothing...
Remember how off-base he was with how Murkans would take his privatiztion of Social Security?
Also, just reading what little we are allowed to see psych-wise, I cannot see him falling on his sword, or taking one for the team, or anything that smacks of responsibility or sacrifice.
Remember after the Hurricane Katriana fiasco, the closest he could come to an actual apology was "Mistakes were made". He'd had to be bullied into the line about him taking responsibility...we all saw his body language on that one; like a little kid in deep doo-doo and wanting to be ELSEWHERE.
I'm thinking this is another example of George's thinking of "What's good for me is good for me...er...the Bush clan."
Boy's outta touch...and maybe outta control.

8. I've Said It All Along...It's Designed To Make Haliburton Look Good
I've heard the meme already start to pop out...and if I'm not mistaken, Pigboy was spewing it today. It's the "Harriet Meiers" ploy. Piss off the base with one tactic then make it appear you've caved to their demands, but it was your initial objective in the first place...very Rovian.

The endgame is to announce by the weekend that the deal has been reviewed and a company like Haliburton or another "boosh pioneer" or shell corporation will "step forward"...an "American company" that will ride to the rescue. Of course it doesn't address the security issue or that this will end up as another fleecing of the American taxpayers as surely an "American company" will require subsidies as it was so "hard-pressed" to ante up ahead of the UAE or the Chinese.

The Democrats have to avoid doing this regime's dirty work when the switcheroo is pulled.

I think we have a winner. Why else does Haliburton "win" all these contracts? And maybe that mercanerie company (Blackwater?) do security instead of police etc.

15. These I Hate Winning
I'm willing to bet the contract is awarded to some company we've never heard of...Haliburton is too radioactive these days...something like Portseco...and will be the subsidiary of a subsidiary...papered over, under and around so no one can trace where the money comes from and goes to.

I can't see this regime pissing off its base that much without having a payoff. Kinda like teasin' your lover.
