Cheney:"We anticipated the possibility of a civil war between Sunni.."

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/white_house/jan-june06/cheney_02-07.html

<snip>

VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY: Well, you can't anticipate everything. You know, we did anticipate a lot of things that didn't happen. We anticipated the possibility of a civil war between Sunni and Shia. That hasn't happened. We anticipated that Saddam would do to his oil fields what he did to the Kuwaiti oil fields 15 years ago, and try to destroy them and set them on fire. We saw them putting explosives out on the wells before the military operation began. That didn't happen.

Iraq "Being Pushed Towards Civil War" says Iraqi President

Following the bombing of one of the most revered Shiite shrines in Samarra, Iraqui President, Jalal Talabani has issued a warning that extremists are pushing Iraq towards civil war.

Whilst receiving a delegation from Salahuddin province Talabani told reporters “We are facing a major conspiracy that is targeting Iraq’s unity,” adding “We should all stand hand in hand to prevent the danger of a civil war.”

The attack at the Samarra shrine comes at the worst time for the countries stability following the elections held there last December. Talabani, told reporters he was working towards a government that would “bring stability to Iraq.”

14. Oh yeah, mustn't forget the fake statute toppling propaganda rally!
Chalabi & his thugs with US troops. Toppling the statue...with US tanks. While the US "media" swooned. And demonized those reporters who dared mention the fact that it was staged, fake, propaganda, with Chalabi's thugs and US troops.

4. They tried to trash Murtha for telling them this
Murtha told them that what's going on is a civil war. Rock star Jean Schmidt makes her debut attacking his patriotism.

Now just watch. They'll take Murtha's plan, call it their own, and have the troops re-deployed just in time for the votes.

17. That's exactly what they will do. There will be a couple of small
changes, which they'll make a big deal about, but it will basically be Murtha's plan with their name on it. Bush will try to take credit for it and expect everyone to praise him for his wonderful solution to this dilemma. Then they will deny that the withdrawal has anything to do with our elections. How dare anyone suggest that they would do something like this for political advantage. That's un-American!

5. I nearly got into a fistfight with my FIL over a brewing civil war in Iraq
last September. Told him it didn't take a genius to realize that the iron hand of Saddam Hussein kept these groups in line. There's no way you can have several religions who hate each other under one roof - despite Hussein's track record of violence he kept the place from blowing up completely.

It was not a pretty moment for either of us - but my point is that any one should have seen this coming.

20. Not entirely true - Kool-aid drinkers believed we would be greeted with
flowers.

Everything else you said is correct though - no one wants another group taking control of their country or telling you how to live your life.

9. So, i guess this means that...
it is ALMOST official now, that Iraq in into civil war...just sort of half slip that into the media...later...a more definite dropping of Iraq is in civil war...and ever so easily..it is civil war...and hardly anyone will notice the change.

19. Think maybe that "anticipated" doesn't mean what he thinks it
means?

They WANTED Saddam to blow up his oil fields - it would make for great propaganda. The thing is, in the first war he NEVER blew up his own oil fields. He blew up the rival Kuwaiti oil fields, believing that we would have to negotiate for Iraqi oil to replace the loss of Kuwaiti oil, giving him a bargaining chip in peace talks. He had nothing to gain by blowing up his oil fields. So why would we expect him to do that?

They WANTED sectarian strife. It's basic divide and conquer - get the factions fighting each other, then pick one side to support, preferably a side that cannot survive without your support. NOTE: The people that blew up the Shia mosque were wearing Iraqi police uniforms, and the Iraqi police are vastly predominately Shia. It stinks of black ops, to me.

These people are beyond despicable.

23. Rather interesting quote from the first part:
"We saw them putting explosives out on the wells before the military operation began."

Okay, why weren't you (Cheney) then focusing on where the WMDs were that you knew were there? That would have shut the Dems/Liberals right up . . .

Since you could see all the Iraqi soldiers placing dynamite at the wells, you surely could have followed those trucks that Powell had the pictures of at his speech before the UN . . . trucks are much bigger than dynamite sticks, or human beings, for that matter . . .
