And now for a break: Teenagers masturbating on Dutch TV!
from AmericaBlog:
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/02/i-was-just-reading-amsterdam-guide.html

I was just reading the Amsterdam guide book my hotel left in my room...

And here's the section on AIDS

In contrast to saying nothing, as in England, or inciting celibacy, as in the States, or parading a horde of sport and fashion celebrities holding up condoms on the front cover of a popular magazines, as in France - Holland decided on a more direct sensible approach. We were treated to a special public service health film on nationwide television during prime time: two totally nude attractive teenagers (male & female) masturbating while holding hands and kissing. The voice over narrative explained that there were other ways of achieving sexual satisfaction besides penetration. It ended with their orgasms.

(and now back to your regularly scheduled BFEE outrage fatigue)

1. Yes
There IS such a thing as safe sex.

Imagine that.

But to broadcast it on TV? Damn near inconceivable.

36. No. The first time I went to Europe I was amazed at the cultural
differences regarding sex and violence. In europe they have a lot of nudity on tv, but almost no violence. You won't see people getting shot.
They are not hung up on sex at all.

In america it's just the opposite. Blood and gore is perfectly acceptable. But show a titty and my gawd ...

Somebody once did a study which showed that every so many seconds a person is being killed on american television.

10. It certainly wouldn't fly if those teenagers were minors--that's just
wrong, sorry. If they were over 18, then hey, cool.

But I really hope these weren't 15 or 16 yr old kids--that's not right--there are sick twisted people out there who don't need additional ideas put into their heads (i.e., not the kids, but pedophiles, etc.)...

18. Age of consent in the Netherlands is 16
Please don't impose your personal morality on the rest of the world. That's just wrong, sorry. :hi:

25. nonsense - my personal feeling is that the age of consent should be 32
You're just not really mature enough to handle sex until then, IMHO. So everyone in the world should comply with my moral standards. Or die! Sinners!

31. I agree, but let's ratchet it up a notch or two -
And to prove you are able to handle sex, I am required to test your abilities. Only when I am satisfied you are able to handle it can you go about your business.

19. The US has one of the highest ages of majority in the world.
In most of the world, and almost all of Europe, 16 is perfectly legal. The whole "no sexual activity before 18" thing is pretty unique to the US among western countries.

40. It's not even "unique to the U.S."...
...only some U.S. states. In many, if not most, states, the age of consent is 16.

42. But we're talking about publishing images, not just sex.
If a 30 year old Massachussets resident wants to have sex with a 17 year old girl, that's perfectly legal as I understand it (age of consent in Mass. is 16). If he takes a nude picture of her and posts it on his website, he's going to do hard time under federal anti childporn laws. Screwing her is legal, showing her off isn't. Isn't the law grand? The FEDERAL definition of "minor" is anyone under the age of 18, and that's what I was referring to as being unique. Running a commercial showing two 16 year olds masturbating on Boston television might actually be legal in that state, but everyone involved in its production and distribution should expect to spend some time in federal prisons afterward.

43. Cause 15 or 16 is incredibly different from 18.
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 05:17 PM by tasteblind
It's a legal distinction. I haven't met too many 18 year olds that looked or acted much differently than they did when they were 15 or 16.

The whole idea that every kid is a kid until 18 is an arbitrary legal distinction.

14. Ah man, this story is nothing without a link to the video!
Help, my inner pervert is showing!

I would imagine though, even being Amsterdam, that the video probably isn't full frontal with closeups. Still, it's cool that they would air something like this. It WOULD get teens attention, and that's often the hardest part of getting them to learn anything.

20. Not always, only recently
There were some major extremes in the Netherlands during the Protestant Reformation, and well in to the 20th century, the country was pretty conservative. Where they differ is that the Dutch have also maintained a very strong sense of personal privacy and "as long as it doesn't affect me, I can't really complain." It has only been in the last 40 years or so that laws have caught up with longstanding attitudes towards drugs and sex.

Gonna leave it up to our corporate media to be the sole arbeiter of sexual information? Or should it go back to street corners?

This isn't about how to fuck, but how to prevent killing yourself and loved ones.

Offensive to some, I'm sure, but a remote comes with most TV's.

I'd rather see a live teenager masturbating than a dead teenager getting buried.
