3. He worked w/unprocessed animal hides, so they're
attributing it to that. "Naturally-occurring" anthrax. Four other people have symptoms, are taking antibiotics.

excuse when anthrax hit the Tabloid building in Florida.

6. My first thought, but sounds like it's legit, and they are downplaying
the risk to other NYers.

4. I'm sure this is not in any way a diversionary tactic...
Anthrax... Too bad they never caught the people involved the first time around... :eyes:

Chertoff:"Bush's poll numbers are in the twenties! Raise the terror alert color NOW!"

8. I Still Don't Get That
I've seen people here say that, but i still haven't seen a logical explanation of how a terror attack helps Silverspoon and his thugs. The "protect us from evil" thingie is all they've got. If we get attacked, i don't see any logical way that helps his numbers, or raises political capital.

10. It doesn't help his poll numbers, but it sure pulls the media away...
The worst thing for an administration like this is an attentive and curious media that begins asking questions. Kinda like the coverage we've seen in the past week on the ports, Katrina, Cheney's shooting off his buddy's face...

By creating a big 'terrah' scare, the focus is pulled away from investigative issues, and the happy little sheeple continue about their frightened ways. Not to mention, when people are afraid they tend to be more than willing to cough up their civil liberties.

15. I Guess I Can See That
Same with what the other reply said. But, i still think this is the worst thing that could happen to the repubs as a whole, because i think we can predict that part of the '06 campaign theme is going to be "Repubs are better on security." If we get attacked again, that whole statement becomes moot.

17. Honestly, I think some neocon members of his admin would welcome that...
I used to listen to Mike Malloy rant about the growing fascist threat that this admin posed, and initially dismissed it as hyperbole. But now... I wouldn't put it past these guys. They are after consolidated power...

And I think they view this as a win-win situation. If no attack happens, they pump up the fear and use it to erode our rights. If there was an attack, then they can say, "See?! We warned you!" I honestly think we'd hear the same spin we heard for 9-11. "No one could have known! We can succeed 99% and they only need to succeed 1% of the time...etc."

And if we are attacked again, I will not be surprised if we enter a period of 'martial law' where elections need to be 'postponed'.

13. Small bits of terror allows the news media to focus on something
besides the scandals.
If they can distract for long enough, people forget the scandals.
The thoughts of terror sends everything else out the window for a lot of people, unfortunately.

9. One of the greatest Go4 songs ever

Woke up this morning desperation a.m.
What I’ve been saying won’t say them again
My head’s not empty, it’s full with my brain
The thoughts I’m thinking
Like piss down a drain

And I feel like a beetle on it’s back
And there’s no way for me to get up
Love’ll get you like a case of anthrax
And that’s something I don’t want to catch

Ought to control what I do to my mind
Nothing in there but sunshades for the blind
Only yesterday I said to myself
The things I’m doing are not good
For my health

Love crops up quite a lot as something to sing about,
Cos most groups make most of their songs about falling in love
Or how happy they are to be in love,
You occasionally wonder why these groups do sing about it all the time -
It’s because these groups think there’s something very special about it
Either that or else it’s because everybody else sings about it and always has,
You know to burst into song you have to be inspired
And nothing inspires quite like love.

These groups and singers think that they appeal to everyone
By singing about love because apparently everyone has or can love
Or so they would have you believe anyway
But these groups seem to go along with what, the belief
That love is deep in everyone’s personality.
I don’t think we’re saying there’s anything wrong with love,
We just don’t think that what goes on between two people
Should be shrouded with mystery.

Love’ll get you like a case of anthrax
And that’s something I don’t want to catch
Love’ll get you like a case of anthrax
And that’s something I don’t want to catch

11. it's nothing -
http://1010wins.com/topstories/local_story_053145654.html

(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) A New York City man has been hospitalized after inhaling anthrax, but officials believe it was accidental and not related to terrorism.

The man traveled recently to the west coast of Africa and became ill shortly after his return, said a federal law enforcement official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The official said the anthrax may have been on animal skins.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly were expected to discuss the case at a City Hall news conference. Aides to the mayor said only the one man was injured, and was recovering in a hospital in Sayre, Pa.

It was not clear how the man came into contact with the deadly substance, but mayor's aides said it was related to his job and that federal and city officials traced the exposure to New York City after the man became ill in Pennsylvania.

16. You think someone might give a shit about finding the guy/guys who
sent the last batch now?

I realize this is "natural" anthrax, but it sure does jog a memory, eh?
