They didn't have to torture people.
For whatever reason I was just thinking about this tonight.

Shrubco got their war, and pretty much everything they've wanted so far.

They didn't have to commit acts of torture, or actively pursue the legal "justifications" and rationalizations for such acts.

Did they do this because they want to plant the seeds of fear, both internationally, and domestically, by the knowledge of their acts of torture being spread? And thinking that such fear would be more valuable to them than the everlasting enmity thereby created would damage them?

Did they DESIRE the everlasting emnity and hatred in the Arab world that would spread like wildfire, from their acts of torture being known? Does this promote their agenda of everlasting war in the Middle East and elsewhere?

Were they really so stupid, that they HONESTLY thought that whatever information gleaned from such torture would be of more value than the damage to the nation, and their own souls, that would result from it? And expect that it would never be discovered?

Or did they do it simply out of malevolence, because they are evil, and relish the idea of inflicting cruelty on others?

4. I think absolutely - they want Iraqis and others to hate Americans.
Nothing else explains it.

Just like Ann Coulter absolutely wants us to hate her.

And probably the neocons want for us to hate them, also.

5. Don't ever forget that this lot of evil, maniacal madmen
are perverted little rat bastards. Look at the "types" of torture. So much is sordid and ugly. Way beyond that...

Who would rape a young boy in front of his parents? It's animalistic. It's who they are. It's repulsive.

6. It's an Extension of the Old American Doctrine,
What we say GOES. Or else. Bush is just being pissy about it.

Seriously, for decades Americans have imposed their will on foreign countries. It's usually been done with a little more subtlety and plausible deniability. Bush wants to bring it out in the open and rule by fear. Which is a big mistake.

I really don't understand the torture thing either. It's extremely weird how much of an obsession it's been with this administration. Right straight from the mind of the leader.
