Speculation on UAE deal: how does this play out?
*'s adament stance astounds me in light of loud and resounding opposition to his position.
I was having a discussion earlier w/a New Yorker on this issue and he stated that New Yorkers despise Bush. They lived through 9/11, attended funerals for their fellow New Yorkers, mourned, & grieved following the attacks. He stated there is NO BLOODY WAY IN HELL they would allow this to stand. He indicated there would be massive demonstrations in astounding numbers not w/anger so much as righteous indignation, shutting down the port as long as it takes for a reversal. whoa.

1. I believe this will lead back to Cheney.
Nothing else makes sense to me.

How can it be that Chimpy doesn't know about the deal, yet threatens a veto to support it?

He must have gotten an order from above. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Then again, maybe he's just lying, as usual.

In some respects, this is very much like the Plame Affair.

2. unfortunately - much of it is going to depend on GOPers
and how "re$olute" they really are about objecting to the deal and how much back-door lobby $henanigan$ will go on (ka-ching$$$?)

3. THEY will withdraw if Bush sees he really will get an override on a veto.
Bush would hate his first veto to be forcing the American public to accept something they feel is against national security.

A deal will be cut, and UAE will withdraw their bid, Bush will save face, the American people will be happy, and Republicans can get busy winning mid-term elections. (They will lose their shirt if this deal goes through)

4. You might have described the totality of their "game" from the
outset. Give Pubs a chance to show that they are willing to stand up for Bush, without really having done so.
