I resent when African Americans say...
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 11:31 AM by slor
and let me preface this, by saying, that I am African American. I resent when my people say that the "Dems take us for granted". Dammit, WE are the Democratic Party. That is not to say that the party is not made up by all sorts of people, but we vote 93% + Democratic. We need to make the party perform in a way that values ALL of the different people that comprise this country, those that want to make a better way for themselves and others, those that want a tolerant and forward thinking country.

2. how about if they say
"Some Dems take us for granted"?
(sadly, a lot of "that kind of Dem" are in leadership positions..)
The Black Caucus has been the most courageous congressional group forever.

3. And sometimes being "taken for granted" is preferable
When the alternative is a party that is trying to kill you through its intentional errors and omissions.

5. I have really begun to agree with you that, to a very great extent, AAs
getting to be what remains of the REAL democratic party. Aside from the CBC and a very few others, ie. Barney Franks, Barbara Boxer, Russ Feingold, to name a few, our party is heading in the same direction that the repubs have almost totally gone. We have a few remaining members of these two parties and a lot of corporatists (fascists! say it!) who have largely taken over. I suspect that if we ever take the country back it will require and be largely due to the efforts of African Americans!

6. I'd rather be taken for granted by a few Dems than strung up under a tree
by card-carrying repukes wearing white sheets and pointy hats.

7. That's what Republicans want AA people to think.

Clinton/Carter were a far cry from Bush 1 & 2, Reagan, Nixon in terms of women, minorities, ordinary Americans.

They use the slogan "911 - never forget" as a means to propagate their murderous agenda.

Ours should be "Katrina - never forget" as a reminder of Republican priorities.

Indeed slor, WE are the party!
