Don't let the "your vote won't count anyway" crowd convince you to stay home because it's "hopeless." Further, question the motives of anyone who suggests you do give up, because that only helps those we have to defeat.

For the record the past election shook out in the following manner:

Verified voting shows progress:

6. "2006 WILL be our salvation"
It's got to be. Bad results, and the last vestiges of democracy are gone. We've got to remove these despots.

7. The message shouldn't be, "your vote won't count anyway".
The message should be, GET YOUR VOTE COUNTED. :)

9. Nobody is suggesting to "give up"
But to rise up and speak out against these machines until something gets done.

10. Actually saying your vote won't count in 2006 suggests voting is futile.
I disagree that "nobody" is saying to "give up."

I agree that we must take action, please click on my link above entitled "get busy" and do so if you haven't already. :)

12. Hmm... I went to the site and I'm still confused.
I live in one of those green states -- New York -- but as far as I know, I'm not getting any kind of paper ballot. In fact, our old lever machines are being replaced with electronic machines. And I've heard that four out of five people this fall will be using electronic touch screen machines.

What exactly is this about, then? Do I have it wrong??

14. Here is a snip about NY.
February 11th, 2005

In New York's last legislative session, both the Senate and the Assembly passed bills requiring voter-verified paper ballots (VVPBs), which voters and legislators agree are essential for ensuring secure and reliable elections. Only VVPBs provide a permanent, auditable record of voter intent. But the bills were left in committee when the session ended, before they could be made law.

There is still work to do however progress is taking place.

13. Hear Hear !
Especially urge young people to vote. They have a tendency to think their vote doesn't matter. We've got to give it all we can.
