So I've Been Reprimanded By a Neo-Con...Come in and see why!
So tonight on my blog, I was posting what I already posted here on DU earlier: Michael Brown's dire warnings to Bushie about NOLA.

And, as I stated on here, I stated on my blog that if Bush could not comprehend what was happening in NOLA, is he really the one we want carrying the nuclear football?

Anyone, one conservative blogger responded to my post and said:

"Please refrain from describing the President of the United States as an idiot. You and your view points have more importance when you just state the facts or your opinion minus the offensive slanders.
Definition:
id·i·ot (d-t)

1. A foolish or stupid person.
2. A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive."

Here was my response:

"First of all, I don't need to be lectured by you on how to describe Idiot Son George W. Bush.

And in case you can't read, I am using the FACTS to back up my opinions.

And the FACT of the matter is that Idiot Son received warnings about Katrina BEFORE and AFTER the hurricane struck.

To borrow a phrase from George Tenet, the system was "blinking read" and "heads were on fire."

Yet despite all of this, even his own Communications Director realized that George Bush didn't understand hte reality of what was happening on the ground, and so he made him a DVD of the various newcasts from NOLA.

And if George Bush could not grasp what was happening in NOLA, he is clearly not the man to carry the nuclear football around.

If your point is that I am disrespecting George Bush by calling him an idiot, then I think you need to talk to Ann Coulter instead.

After all, during the Clinton Years, she called the incumbent President and First Lady "white trash" on MSNBC."

1. All you needed to say is...
"And your point is...?" regarding the definition of "idiot".

4. I actually have to agree with the con on this one---
The minute you use an ad hominem attack, even if it is one that has been well-earned by your subject, you lose any chance you may have had in getting a swing voter or conservative to agree with you.

It strips you (the general "you") of credibility and makes you look like a hack.

I have done it myself in the past and I definitely know the damage it can do.

7. Neither did I, until someone said it to me, and then I was really
kind of ashamed of myself--I think that we all have a lot more to offer to the political discourse than we give sometimes... Sometimes the situation is just so frustrating that it feels good to lash out--that's one of the reasons I like DU--we can get it all out in certain threads, and keep it out of the important stuff.

11. I simply respond, "unless and until you can prove to me that you have
always trounced on anyone who called any democratic president names, then you have absolutely NO standing to tell me what I may call someone." that usually shuts them up.

12. fair enough, but better to avoid the argument altogether--
this kind of rhetorical bargaining may shut a critic up, but you've already lost them at this point.

Better to avoid ad hominem attacks and try to gain the respect of the other person. Better to maintain credibility rather than lash out in anger.

Alls I'm sayin'.

14. Better to argue with facts, which are plenty damning on their own,
however I appreciate your frustration and anger with Dumbya. Sometimes it's better to lay out the facts and let people draw their own conclusions, though.

I slip up and insult Bush all the time too, though. It's hard not too, he is an absolutely terrible president.
