With Bush in charge, I often feel as if people are punished for not adhering to Bush doctrine. This has religious as well as political components. There are a lot of similarities between the various Inquisitions and the actions of the current Bush Administration. Lord knows Bush loves his torture, and he's not too picky about whether the people he tortures are terrorists or not. Heaven help you if you're not a wacko right wing religious nut case who supports the most extreme religious dogma, and the inevitable restriction of the rights of others to live their lives according to their own beliefs and not the Bush Administration dogma. Heretics of the Bush dogma are punished through a variety of means, including political reprisal, IRS audits, public attacks, etc.
Over and over again I find that the Bush Administration is resurrecting the worst abuses of past governments. They seem to fit the Inquisition mold quite well, along with all the other abuses.
