My conservative Grandmother LOVES Oprah -- if it's on Oprah, she's 100% for it. Because of this, she has given time and money to causes she never would have if Oprah was "political." She's been exposed to OPrah's mantra that people are people: gays, blacks, poor people, etc. She's seen the horrible conditions in our own country and the world. She's learned some compassion for people that she once scorned. Who cares if Oprah does the occasional giveaway show or show about sex? The audience she reaches is vast.

Oprah is a smart cookie, and when she needs to get a message across, she does.

Here, I'll say it before the oddly large amount of Oprah haters on DU says it: She had Arnold on her show. I disagree with this. This does not cancel out all the good she's done, the people she has educated, the FORTUNE she has given away to help people.

...moreover, Oprah's a serious threat to the RW agenda because she's not political -- while garnering a level of public credibility and attention that the WH dreams of (not to mention that she's not exactly compatible with the country club elite).

Additionally ...she thinks & speaks in real-time (rather than in ideological constructs). Last I knew, her show is seen internationally (I was in a tiny town in the Netherlands in the 90's & saw her show)

She encourages millions of people worldwide to think for themselves. How could this admin take this as a threat? :shrug:
