1. CNN's Coverage Got Obnoxious
I was glad the corporate media decided to check into the Gulf coast rather than their usual practice of thinking a disaster ends the day their cameras pack up and move to the next disaster. For a couple days it appeared there were reports that focused on the reconstruction...then came Mardi Gras.

While it's great to see the krewes and partiers, and i'm sure the French quarter was rockin'...that sure wasn't/isn't the real situation and gives the false impression things have already recovered. CNN seemed to get carried away as their report all but focused on the Mardi Gras parades and away from the other stories in that region...and just not in NOLA...that need to be told. It got real bad when one of the correspondents was tossing beads back and forth with doofus senator Vittner (R-Abramoff)...a guy who voted against his own state to enforce mimimum wage laws in the wake of the disaster.

Now the correspondants will pack up the cameras...along with the hurricane glasses and beads...and be off to their next "big thing". Meanwhile tonight another family spends another night in a hotel room or forced in with another family with no home and no hope. Only in America...let the good times roll...

2. I was impressed with ABC's coverage last night. Charlie Gibson
and Co. did a good job of highlighting the fact that relatively nothing is being done. The story on the couple that had a FEMA trailer but no keys to it was heartbreaking. They had always been a part of the Mardi Gras parade and this is the first year in their marriage that they cannot afford to reconstruct their costumes. He said he was going to celebrate "as best he could...maybe on the front porch of his wrecked home with a can of red beans..." They had a lot of panoramic shots of the destruction with virtually no clean up crews, FEMA support or anything. Yes, this is America. And it makes me sick.
