Poll: W's out to sea

Port flap sinks him to 34%

BY KENNETH R. BAZINET
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Battered by the ports controversy that saw fellow Republicans turn against him, the President's poll numbers have hit an all-time low.
Only 34% of Americans surveyed by CBS approve of the job he's doing - down seven points from just a month ago.

The bad news comes as President Bush departs today for India and Pakistan amid speculation he might slip off for a secret visit to Afghanistan.

The lowest Bush has ever scored in the CBS poll is 35% in October 2005, as concerns about Iraq mounted and anger of the handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster festered.
