Patriot Act cloture vote at 2:30 in the Senate!
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 02:47 PM by Idioteque
This is the so called "compromise" bill that amends the conference report. Sen. Feingold had his own amendments that he wanted to offer but they were not allowed a floor vote by Bill Frist.

Senators should reject cloture so Sen. Feingold can have his amendments voted on.

1. Question from me
If we take back the House and Senate can we reopen the debate and change this?

2. Sure
Of course it would face a veto from BushCo. We would need the White House too.

8. But, if we take back the House and Senate
the Senate Repukes who weren't up for reelection in 2006 but will be in 2008 might see the handwriting on the wall (as might any House Republican who wins a close race) and they might vote to override any veto in the name of their own survival in the next election cycle.

6. We've lost this one. :(
All of the Repubs are voting for cloture and we've already lost Pryor, Johnson, Kohl, both Nelsons, and some others.

28. Feinstein briefly had the "Sheehan effect" too with Alito cloture vote!
Even though she came out bad mouthing the fillibuster early on, you could tell that she couldn't vote yes on cloture with Sheehan threatening to run against her. Now that Sheehan's pulled out of the primary, Feinstein feels free to go back to her B.S. DINO activies! As noted, we need someone to run against her, Sheehan or no!

14. well.. folks we have such a great party - they all stood strong in
complete unanimity to protect our Constitution and the 4th amendment for the protection of the people of this nation.

What a great, Principled Patriotic Party We have! We can all rest assured now, get on with the rest of our lives, because our Party just stood in Favor of Fascism and a Totalitarian Governement, White House and the NSA .

I'm so proud to be American represented by such upstanding fasicsts .

15. I am surprised we got 30 votes against cloture, in fact.
A few days ago, I would not have hoped that many.

22. SOMEONE run against Feinstein!
California deserves a better senator than her representing it! We need someone else in the primary. Perhaps Sheehan is better doing something else, but maybe we could get someone like Richard Dreyfuss to run! He gave a great speech on CSPAN a week ago or so that could convince many of the need to impeach this bum now. I think that with the same oratory talent he could persuade Californians to get him in as Senator too...

Medea was the Green rep in 2000. I was already fed up with her then.

31. Too bad we can't register "None of the above" as a candidate...
Even though that candidate couldn't win, it might send her a message if enough folks voted that way in the primary (especially registered Dems).

23. The Usual Suspects with a bit of Chair Shuffling.
the Nelson's, Landrieu, Conrad, Carper, Johnson, Pryor, and Lincoln were voted for cloture on Elite-O, but for Clinton, Biden, Feinstein, Kohl, Schumer, and Rockefeller it is a disgusting level of pandering - and these people think most Americans won't know about it, and the few of us who do know, doesn't matter. Political calculations factor in, on the "national security" front. Just for once, i really wish that conventional wisdom of political calculations smacks them all hard in the face hard in their campaign for re-election.

right now, i have nothing but utter contempt for these traitors.
