Supreme Court Hears Ex-Playmate's Case

WASHINGTON - With an oil fortune on the line, former stripper Anna Nicole Smith encountered a sympathetic audience at the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Several justices said they were concerned that the one-time Playboy Playmate was kept from pursuing a piece of her late husband's fortune.

"It's quite a story," said Justice Stephen Breyer.

Smith married oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994 when he was 89 and she was a 26-year-old topless dancer in Texas. Marshall died the following year. His fortune has been estimated at as much as $1.6 billion.

One of his two sons claims he is the only heir.

she was his wife. Marriage confers the rights of kinship, and so she has a right to part of the estate in the absence of a pre-nuptual agreement waiving those interests.

If she loses in the supreme court married folks just have one less right. I know what side I would take, and I don't know any player in that affair well enough to like or dislike them and that's irrelevant to the situation anyway.

If the supreme court turns this into a judgement of her occupation or the age difference or anything else they suppose she "intended" by getting married to him then married folks - divorce and death just got a whole shitload uglier for you.

and if he wanted to leave it ALL to her, that would be his right. The son who claims to be the only heir looks to me like the greedy bastard, not Anna Nicole. And for the record, I'm not an Annna Nicole fan.
