I thought Lou Dobbs was a bushbot.
I don't get these guys. It's like they have moments of clarity every now and then, like Shep and Joe in NOLA, and Lou Dobbs right now, but as soon as the news cycle changes, they're back in lockstep.

What does it take?

1. He isn't a bushbot.
He is a conservative, but in the old sense of the word. Even though I don't agree with everything he reports, the man doesn't fall in lockstep with the administration and seems to really care about the middle class of this country. If you have a chance, check out his bio on CNN's site. Not someone Rove and Co. should be messing with.

6. I agree with him a lot more than I disagree
For instance, his point that Arthur Andersen was blown to bits because of a few Enron creeps in the Houston office was on the money. Chicago lost 20,000 great jobs because of that, people who had done nothing wrong.

2. I think Lou does have moments of clarity,
but he's right on this one so lets help him out. He seems to get hold of a subject, and he just rides it to completion. And that ain't a bad thing, because most pundits go with the news cycle.

3. I suspect.....with the likes of Lou Dobbs........
that the tide is turning....I would think his ratings are very high...because he is talking about real American issues....he talks about America first....other reporters will eventually have to do this...

Even stupid Oleily is talking about pulling out of Iraq....

4. give him some time...he's piss you off royally...and soon
Dobbs has a couple of issues we agree with him on. One is exporting jobs which I think is part of where his fever over the ports comes from. It's part of the xenophopia/isolationism/tinged with racism of the right. He reaches the correct conclusions at times, but it is often for the wrong reasons.

As soon as he gets off on some other issue, you'll be wondering why you thought he was okay. Kinda like McCain.

5. Lou is a capitalist..a corporatist..a "money-guy"
His longtime show was a Money show.. He left CNN and was wooed back but his show shifted focus out of necessity..

He has started to see the light, but his philosophy has always been "immigrants-bad"...taxes-bad...welfare-bad.....Think "a kinder, gentler, smarter Pat Buchanan..That's Lou..

He tosses a bone now and then, but underneath he's still got a reddish tinge..

A smart cat knows not to eat ALL the mice, or the supply stops:)

12. Exactly So.. a True Conservative Libertarian.
Libertarians are not "Moderate" Conservatives.

My politics fall sort of in line with Socialist Libertarians, (not complteley) which have commonality with Libertarians on matters of civil liberties and civil rights, the principles of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Those are the areas where the two groups find common ground, and often join together on matters like the Patriot Act, Domestic Spying, Separation of Church and State etc.. but beyond issues concerning civil rights and civil liberties, we part company.

Socialists Libertarins believe in those principles very deeply, but also understand that our lives extend beyond the four corners of our houses.. We have communities that need to be cared for and sustained, we have public institutions vital to the needs of a thriving democracy, such as free or affordable education for everyone, universal health care, clean air and water for the future of our children's children, stewarts of the planet, good citizenship, and the like and as far as the military is concerned, vital for defense but not offense. as far as trade, let it be FAIR TRADE to promote sustainable communities. These are principles that people like Lou Dobbs detest and scorn.

7. nah, he's a paleocon
old school conservative like in your grandaddy's day. They bought in to the Bush Miracle for the first few years, giving the Bushies time to clone Reagan out of Bushies navel lint, as they advertised.

They failed. Paleocons Angry.

13. I agree. He understands the importance of a strong American middle class.
A strong and growing middle class fosters democracy, national security, and prosperity. For Lou, a small group of mega rich guys growing richer just doesn't cut it.

15. yes, he's been a fierce advocate on their behalf..
i hope one day he grows to understand that it's necessary to advocate on behalf of the wage earning/workinging class, including Union and other Labor issues.

10. Dobbs? Is a Poster Child for Conservative Liberarians
He's not a bush bot. The Libertarian Party if you'll recall ran against Bush in 2004. (can't remember in 2000?)

Dollars to donuts, Dobbs voted with the Libertarian ticket.

11. He may be all those things,
but right now he's being of some help. He may be against this port deal for all the wrong reasons, but if it hurts Bu$h then at this time i agree with him.

14. Don't get me Wrong... I appreciate what Dobbs is doing on a lot of issues
I do see him as a hyperbolic xenophobe on the matter of "border security" .. and that is rather disturbing, but on a plethora of other issues he's spot on.

Dobbs at least as an independent streak that I can appreciate especially on Cable News .. If he were on Fox, I would never see his reports. He does not flinch from revealing that he is an advocate public affairs host, but at least he is clearly no GOP shill and that's a rare pleasure.
