2. Here is the thing. If you can start a war. Any war. Then you can do
whatever you want because we are in a time of war.

13. There once was
The War Powers Act. Congress conveniently forgot about it.

14. It is somewhere in the archives or did they actually get rid of the law?

And you CAN'T BE QUESTIONED ABOUT IT, EITHER!
Questioned about the war itself, or any of the other corruption, profiteering, torture, or trampling of civil liberties that occur under its cover!

3. You know what knocks me out about that sort of thing?
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 10:22 PM by Marr
No one in the media or in politics will even blink. There will be no calls for a resignation, no half-hour cable news roundtables that strain to guage precisely *how* horrible the statement was, no endless loop played on the radio of Mr. Perkins making his offensive and ludicrous accusation.

Calling someone a traitor is no small thing. It's a hell of alot worse than saying the Congress has been 'run like a plantation'. But no one expects any better from them. They're Republicans, so they make rude, untrue, and outright stupid statements all the time.

These Republican assholes are suffering from the soft bigotry of low expectations.

5. Here they go again: yada yada yada blah blah blah
So many of the Repuke's responses to people questioning the Chimp are the intellectual equivalent of, "Yeah? And your mutha wears combat boots!" (That's one that used to fly around the playground when I was a kid.) Sheesh, they are so fucking predictable in how they respond. :eyes:

7. You can thank the Dems who left him out to dry...
The GOP sharks smell blood in the water, of course they are going to close in. This wouldn't have been a problem if other sitting Democrats understood the what term "opposition party" means, and made this a credible gesture ahead of the upcoming elections. It's not like the administration is particularly popular these days, with approvals hovering around 18-32% for the VP & Bush and conservatives on the street registering displeasure across the country.

11. I never thought of it the way you put it...
and it makes perfect sense.

The other Democrats don't have a clue what the word "opposition" means. They are too stuck on the "minority" part. But you would think that as the party that prides itself on fighting for the minorities, they would be at least semi-capable of fighting for themselves. But they need to "oppose" just like they urge women, African-Americans, GLBT (to some extent) to do. Practice what they preach, in a sense.

I thought that Reid let Frist get away with way too much. Sarbanes was doing a better job handling him. And I was half mad/half glad that Feingold high-tailed it off the floor. The mad was that he could have easily crushed Specter and Specter was left to gloat about Feingold not being there. The glad was that it wasn't going to make any difference to anyone, so why stand around?

But, thank you ReadTomPaine, for that new and perfect perspective.

Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 10:28 PM by gatorboy
It's so subjective that you can never tell when it's over. Their new slogan "The Long War" proves that. So you can never criticise our pResident because we are at war....forevah. :eyes:

9. Umm, Tony, I think Feingold has shown a better case for censure....
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 10:30 PM by calipendence
... than you have of trying to make him out to be committing treason!

What crime exactly is it that he's committed? Must be only a crime of treason if we're under a dictatorship, not a democracy! Is that what we're in now Tony? Do you really want to tell America that we only want Democracy for other countries and not here!? I can think of a stream of expletives I'd like to say but won't in the interest of maintaining civility.

Better start thinking of what you're going to do after next election, when we start enforcing libel and slander laws against Republicans...

10. I am so sick of this crap
Tony Perkins can go shit in his hat. It's amazing how a country founded on dissent is now labeling anyone who has the nerve to speak out against the criminal regime taking over this country "traitors and un-american". Whats un-american is sitting back smiling while these nazis take over the goddam world. I am so sick of these assholes making me fight day in and day out just to keep what little sanity I have left. Here it is in a nutshell, they are killing innocent people. Women and children. They are torturing people. They are violating international trearies, they are pissing on the constitution, and the very ideals America was founded on. If this is what it means to be a "proud American" then I want no part of it. What really gets my goat, what is really driving me nuts is the Dems just sit back and take it. I can count on my hands the number of dems who are showing any fucking spine at all. Flame me all you want, if we don't get something done in the 06' elections I'm out of here.

12. Puh-leeze....Perkins needs to be branded a traitor
for helping launch that phony-ass "culture war" to divide the Nation during a time of war.

Enough of these blowhards - all these "family" groups don't seem to make it into too many "family" living rooms.

15. "Treason"--- like, breaking his oath to uphold the Constitution?

"in a time of war".. Well, shit- if it's a 'time of war', how come no one, particularly the people with the tax cuts, have been asked to make sacrifices? How come we're doing business with 'the enemy' in Dubai? (Wait.. Dubai's not "The Enemy"? Well, then, neither is IRAQ)...

and most importantly, can we DEFINE this war, WHO it is WITH, and WHEN it is supposed to END?
