Bush calls this the "New Deal." pRes. Twit: I think it's a "Raw Deal."
He perhaps unwittingly used language recalling a famous Democratic anti-poverty initiative, President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s.

"Everybody explaining Medicare to you — the new deal?" Bush asked a crowd in one room. "I hope so. It's worth looking at."

Retired people can't afford their meds, students can't go to school, workers can't get jobs, rent and mortgage payments are high....

Screw this "deal," Mr. Bush.

1. excuse me where's my nausea pills
what planet is he on? Yes, it's a new deal to increase the profits to corporate
america, once again, and starve the middle class. It actually takes over the
cost of prescription drug plans promised by employers. Of course.

4. Medicare isn't even a New Deal program
It was a Great Society program, which was very different from the New Deal.

5. Harry S. Truman and his wife got the first Medicare Cards
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 09:31 PM by MissWaverly
Under LBJ, I seem to remember reading that. I looked it up, I was right, Bush must have
missed the news that day, no wait, he doesn't watch the news.

30 July: Participated in ceremony at the Truman Library during which President Johnson signed the Medicare bill, an event that Truman described as a "profound personal experience for me." Mr. and Mrs. Truman received Medicare registration cards numbers one and two in January 1966.
