Poll question: The movie that most accurately resembles the *bush admin
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 10:53 PM by Prisoner_Number_Six
For my money it's Caligula- Despite Bob Guccione's contention that it's high art that happens to have a wee bit o' sex in it, in reality it's a cheap f*ckfest with a bit of a story thrown in, albeit a disputably "true" one. It's the tale of a mad boy emperor who takes over the rule of Rome after having his equally mad father strangled while he lies on his death bed. Although superficially popular with the masses, Caligula runs roughshod over the senate, at one point ordering the prostitution of all their wives (insert hot steamy smutty genuine orgy scene).

Caligula was real, although the finer points of the story are in dispute. A better, more accurate telling will be had by watching "I, Claudius"- Claudius was Caligula's stuttering, supposedly moronic uncle. After Caligula was killed by his own people, they grabbed Claudius and proclaimed him Emperor. He turned out to be an excellent ruler- he was a closet deep thinker and philosopher, and he ruled well, undoing much of the depravity and debauchery of the previous two "rulers".

We should be so lucky.

11. The Titanic
The parallels include: the rush to "launch" their war, their arrogance that they were "unsinkable", and their disregard for the huddled masses "drowning" below deck.

At this point the Bush administration is rearranging the deck chairs as their administration sinks. I just pray that they don't take too many more innocent people with them.

22. I really love the original, starring Frank Sinatra
-I have it on DVD.

The "remake" starring Denzel Washington is... shall we say, "less than adequate".
