"60,057 Catholics Reject Da Vinci Code"
NOT 61,293. NOT 59,754. 60,057. Please get it correct.

HANOVER, Penn., March 30 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property TFP and its America Needs Fatima campaign have collected 60,057 signatures against the upcoming The Da Vinci Code movie. The organization is confident it will gather at least 100,000 protest letters and e-mails before May 19, when the blasphemous film is scheduled to hit theaters across the country.

"As faithful sons and daughters of the Church, it’s our duty to defend the honor of Our Lord whenever He is blasphemed," said America Needs Fatima director Robert Ritchie. "And since The Da Vinci Code is a public blasphemy, our reparation and protest should be public."

The TFP’s web site (www.tfp.org) invites readers to sign an online protest petition addressed to Columbia Pictures, producers of The Da Vinci Code movie.

"When the Romans fed innocent Christians to the lions and watched them get torn to shreds, they claimed it was entertainment. Today, persecution against the Faith continues in the form of blasphemy," Ritchie remarked. "The Da Vinci Code attacks the Divinity of Christ, the Gospel, the Papacy and the holy mysteries of the Faith – and yet it too is being called entertainment."

and feel "success" at having done so?

That was a terrifying movie with the rubber suited poop monster and all.

How do they expect to be taken seriously with comparisons of Vinci Code to feeding christains to lions?

8. I'm sure that will piss of the producers
Yet more people to go and see the film. I went to see Last Temptation of Christ for the simple reason that church groups protested it. I was young, had no real interest in the story but man it was fun to piss of the church groups. I also went to a Marilyn Manson concert for pretty much the same reason

The Da Vinci Code was a great read and I can't wait to see the movie.Perhaps if this group could go volunteer for Catholic Relief Services, their time would be more productive. Real life crisis supersedes fiction.

39. You have to wonder, cynically, if there isn't a back end deal already
made between the church and the owners of the film rights!!!

You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours! Display enough faux outrage, and up the attendance figures!

Back in the day, the way you knew which movies were the good ones was when the priest told ya NOT to go see it!!

23. Geez, give me a break!
It isn't persecution, it's a book, got that? How can a book persecute you? Is it jumping up and smacking you upside the head? Is it repressing your expression of your religion? Is it preventing you from going to Mass?

No, it is a book, OK.

I'm sick and tired of these people playing the persecution card whenever the least little thing upsets them. This cult of victimhood is sick and twisted, and in the long run unhealthy for those who participate in it. If your religion is as strong as you claim, then it certainly doesn't need to be protected from a book, or a movie, that bases it's premise on some something that calls your religion into question. Is your faith that weak? Is your belief that fragile? Is your faith so small that it is threatened by a book or a movie?

If so, then I pity you. If not, good for you. In either case, there is no need to play the persecution card. Call me when you are being fed to the lions again. Then and only then will I believe that you are being persecuted. Until then, all you are doing is annoying people, and pumping up the bottom line of this movie.

24. Blasphemy: a victimless crime.
This is fantastic, and I'm sure everyone associated with the movie LOVES it, because controversy sells. Just like The Last Temptation, people who might not have gone to the movie in the first place will do so to see what all the fuss is about.

he really sits around the church!

They should just fucking grow-up.

What kind of pathetic gawd needs those weasels to fight his or her or its battles for them?

Hey, Catholics! Your Jesus rides bicycles without seats!

There, I said it.

What you gonna do about it?

Playground antics on a global scale become wars of genocide.

Killing someone over religion is as stupid as starting a brawl at a sci-fi convention of Kirk vs Piccard.

What a fucking waste of time. Shouldn't they be feeding the hungry or clothing the naked instead of wasting their time on this? Maybe they should tend to the plank in their own eyes.

Now let's get on to making a documentary about pedophile priests and the Catholic church's constant shuffling them around to different parishes, hiding their assets when sued, etc.

36. It only proves that your average right winger Christian cannot read.
This book has been on the best seller list for three years and now they get insulted? Oy!

On a side note, I didn't think the book was very good. The premise had been done before (And better in the Preacher comic book series), plus the set up was just like his first book, "Angels and Demons" As far as thrillers go, it wasn't very thrilling.

Evidentally this is a last gasp from the patriarchal church...
