Talk about a conspiracy and there's nothing "theoretic" about it.
Do you realize how much coordination the following represents:

<clip>

The pre-election damage-control effort in response to Wilson's allegations and the broader issue of whether the Bush administration might have misrepresented intelligence information to make the case for war had three major components, according to government records and interviews with current and former officials:

1. blame the CIA for the use of the Niger information in the president's State of the Union address;

2. discredit and undermine Wilson;

3. and make sure that the public did not learn that the president had been personally warned that the intelligence assessments he was citing about the aluminum tubes might be wrong.

Several folk have posted links to Murray Waas latest report in the National Journal, but I think this particular paragraph is such a refined statement, of how coordinated and concurrent the cover-up efforts were (are), that it deserves highlighting.

How tragic it is that what Senator Durbin cogently stated in July, 2004, is still not understood by many Americans:

<clip>

As National Journal first disclosed on its Web site on October 27, 2005, Cheney, Libby, and Cheney's current chief of staff, David Addington, rejected advice given to them by other White House officials and decided to withhold from the committee crucial documents that might have shown that administration claims about Saddam's capabilities often went beyond information provided by the CIA and other intelligence agencies. Among those documents was the President's Summary of the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate.

In July 2004, when the Intelligence Committee released a 511-page report on its investigation of prewar intelligence by the CIA and other agencies, Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., said in his own "Additional Views" to the report, "Concurrent with the production of a National Intelligence Estimate is the production of a one-page President's Summary of the NIE. A one-page President's Summary was completed and disseminated for the October 2002 NIE ... though there is no mention of this fact in report. These one-page NIE summaries are ... written exclusively for the president and senior policy makers and are therefore tailored for that audience."

Durbin concluded, "In determining what the president was told about the contents of the NIE dealing with Iraq's weapons of mass destruction -- qualifiers and all -- there is nothing clearer than this single page."

Conspiracy - Yes. Nothing theoretic about it.

Charge'um and book'um.

Peace.

1. Media gave short shrift to Durbin's views and parroted the Rove talking
points against Wilson that were PLANTED into the report by Pat Roberts. The media KNEW Rove leaked but helped him cover it and focused on helping to smear Wilson as a lying campaign operative for Kerry.

The corporate media HELPED Rove every step of the way.

3. BooMan: "And it all goes back to the those dreaded aluminum tubes."
Waas reveals the basic outlines of a much larger conspiracy. A conspiracy within which Valerie Plame played a relatively minor part.

Yes.

The scale of the conspiracy is so large as to dwarf the traitorous act of outing a CIA NOC.

One thing for sure that history will remember about Georgie boy and his neoconsters minions -- they did jumbo-size crime.

Peace.

5. WMDgate: Fixing Intelligence Around Policy - The Aluminum Tubes, Part 2B-2
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 07:54 PM by understandinglife
eriposte at The Left Coaster, as many of you know, is second to none in the extensive journaling of what can simply be called Bu$h's giant lie to Congress and all that he and his minions have done to cover-up their deception and crimes.

In November, 2005, eriposte noted:

This post is part of a series (see Introduction and Parts 1, 2A-1, 2A-2, 2A-3, 2A-4, 2A-5, 2B-1) focused on building a case to demonstrate the Bush White House's intelligence manipulation, fixing and misrepresentation, mostly using published Congressional reports like the Phase I Senate (SSCI) Report, the Robb-Silberman WMD Commission Report, etc. While it is clear that even without the use of Congressional reports, the case against the Bush White House is pretty solid - see here and here for example - I wanted to demonstrate that the parliamentary reports, rather than make the case against the White House weaker, actually make it stronger.

Part 2A-1 through Part 2A-5 used CIA, DIA, DOE, INR and foreign intelligence reporting (British, UN/IAEA, Australian) to demonstrate that the Bush administration made deliberately false or misleading statements on the end use of the aluminum tubes in early September 2002. In Part 2B-1, I showed that in the post-September 2002 period, the Bush administration's mendacity was even more inexcusable considering that the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) had prominent dissents by INR (and DOE) on the purported end use of the tubes. In particular, INR and DOE explicitly pointed out that the tubes were poorly suited for centrifuges and most likely intended for conventional weapons like rockets. In this part, I wrap-up the discussion on the post-September 2002 (but pre-Iraq invasion) period by focusing on additional information provided to the Bush administration by the IAEA (and to some extent, the information provided by British intelligence).

For those of you needing details eriposte provides them. In no way am I implying that Murray Waas' article is insignificant, but I think it important to bring attention to someone who has created a major resource for all those seeking the truth regarding the fact that Bush LIED to Congress and to all of us ... something every Democratic Congress member and candidate should be holding Bush accountable.

Peace.

<clip>

Yet, George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condi Rice made false statements in early September 2002 about the intended end use of the tubes. This would of course, also mean that similar statements made by Bush administration officials after September 12, 2002, were likewise, false or deliberately misleading. What's more, many of the Bush administration statements after September 12, 2002 occurred after the release of the classified National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) in early October 2002. A review of the Key Judgments in the NIE, and the corresponding claims in the unclassified White Paper (based on the NIE), further establishes the intentional deceit of the Bush White House in the run-up to the war.

Much more of eriposte's November 23, 2005, report at the Link:

I assure you Ms Rice, that should you still not be indicted by 2008, you will be confronted with these facts. Best you retire to your piano and hope everyone forgets you ever existed.

Peace.

8. Conspiracies
Let's hope this conspiracy will see the light of day. There was one back in 1963 that we were never told the truth about, and possibly never will. The media's complicity in accepting bs story after bs story, and never double-checking or second-guessing the work of "experts," is largely to blame. Is there any reason to assume things will be different this time around? Perhaps the internet, and websites like this one, will be the deciding factor.
