All over the local media, the school executives are telling students not to join the protests against the Sensenbrenner and a similar state bill related to immigration. Many of these students risk losing their parents, even if the students themselves are citizens.
One of the school administrators' main points is that the AIMS test is coming up and they want the students to succeed, naturally.
I can understand that; and to some degree the Phoenix public schools are trying to accomodate the students who want to protest. For that I give them props.
Fine by me.
Yet, today walkers from the local Catholic prep school were out in force walking for charity. I think that's a fine thing; it teaches giving and responsibility for others.
But this was the entire school--several hundred. All seniors will be taking the AIMS test if in public school, not so in VOUCHER-SUPPORTED private schools.
Is it just me who senses some hypocrisy? Am I missing something?
