MIHOP II, coming right at 'cha...
Attacking Iran May Trigger Terrorism
U.S. Experts Wary of Military Action Over Nuclear Program

By Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, April 2, 2006; A01

As tensions increase between the United States and Iran, U.S. intelligence and terrorism experts say they believe Iran would respond to U.S. military strikes on its nuclear sites by deploying its intelligence operatives and Hezbollah teams to carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.

Iran would mount attacks against U.S. targets inside Iraq, where Iranian intelligence agents are already plentiful, predicted these experts. There is also a growing consensus that Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, they said.

U.S. officials would not discuss what evidence they have indicating Iran would undertake terrorist action, but the matter "is consuming a lot of time" throughout the U.S. intelligence apparatus, one senior official said. "It's a huge issue," another said.

Citing prohibitions against discussing classified information, U.S. intelligence officials declined to say whether they have detected preparatory measures, such as increased surveillance, counter-surveillance or message traffic, on the part of Iran's foreign-based intelligence operatives.

1. "U.S. officials believe strongly...."
that Iran will trigger terrorist strikes against the military and targets within the United States..." blah, blah blah.

Same song and dance. Different partner.

But didn't Bush say the other day that we shouldn't play on people's fears?

Oh, unless he wants to start another war.

What bullshit.

9. This sounds uncannily like the Abfallsturm...
... coming out of the Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Or, properly, I should say, coming out of the mouth of the "saintly" PASTOR of the Cornerstone Church, the "Rev" John Hagee...

This "anointed-by-God" shauspieler has been preaching and writing that Iran is, for all practical purposes, the business office of the Anti-Christ, if not His home congregation...

I'll not go into the filth I heard spewing from that "christian" man's mouth, except to say that, if it sounds like "jihad" and plays like "jihad", then...

"God, PLEASE protect the world from your followers!"

his very FACE is part of the data I use to back my theory that fundamentalism is directly related to some kind of genetic abnormality.

He's insane. Absolutely insane. Terrifying vacancy in his eyes, with something like a seething hatred of all things wonderful in place of a soul.

PS: If anyone has a wav of his sudden, not relevant to the sermon OUTBURST from eons ago about "Marilyn Manson is the music of Hell!" I'd lick Cheney to have it. I know, nobody does, but a guy can dream. It was hysterical. He wasn't even talking about anything remotely like music, or Hell, or Manson...it was like the mothership seized him or he could feel me watching him and mocking him from through the TV.

He's good for drinking game--when you see visible spit fly from his mouth, do a shot.

EDIT: "Spewing" is EXACTLY what he does, you've got it dead on, there. It's like the evil, hateful craziness is filling him with such pressure that when he opens his mouth it gushes out like a firehose filled with dumb.....I'm surprised he doesn't fly backwards sometimes....

"his very FACE is part of the data I use to back my theory that fundamentalism is directly related to some kind of genetic abnormality." -

I would have sprayed my monitor! You're right though, that guy's off the wall. He can be truly scary. It does at times seem that those who are extreme fundamentalists or right-wingers posess certain phenotypical traits, although it's not always the case and probably not a very nice way to view people. Still, it's awful tempting to snicker when a truly deranged rightie or fundie "looks the part", as it were. ;)

14. This "believes strongly" crap has got to go.......
by the wayside of "our intelligence sources have been picking up "constant chatter."

The only constant chatter I hear is a spew of lies emanating from the White House.

2. The most effective counter-terrorism measure would be impeachment
or indicting the whole WHIG mob, before they can strike again.

15. true that...
... but let's be wary of "Masada" syndrome (aka "if I can't make the rules, I'll destroy the playground!")

Frankly, the deeply paranoid part of my psyche is terrified that, if the eunuchs in the "Regress of the Disunited States" ever DO muster enough courage to actually BRING a Bill of Impeachment against the "C-i-T" (all together now, children: "Commander-in-Thief"! }( ), the members of the unholy cabal might just decide that "God" was telling them to nuke the Godless minions of the Anti-Christ (i.e., "Ay-Rabs", and particularly, according to Hagee, Iranians), rather than risk their surviving, and nuking the good Christian children of the "only True God" (i.e., themselves and their progeny!)

This is NOT supposition or extrapolation: Hagee preaches this filth from his pulpit, a fact verifiable by anyone willing to sit through one of his televised sermons on Trinity!

(God, PLEASE protect us from your followers!)

19. I don't know Hagee-
I do know some of the ""good"" ""Christians"" who want death to all Muslims and still believe what the knucklehead in chief says.
As my ex potential mother in law would say "kill them all and leave 6 for pallbearers"

4. But they'll need another "Reichstag fire", "Pearl Harbor", or "9/11"...
They will have to make it appear that Iran has done something hostile towards the United States in order to justify a strike. I wonder how they might orchestrate such a scheme. Just watch, though... if the Bushies REALLY want armed conflict with Iran they shall have it. :grr:

12. I always thought that was why all the "anti-terra" stuff
was so, filled with sound and fury, signifying nothing. Lots of flash and noise and money to hand around but NONE of the things--like real baggage checks, or, yanno, not marching around the Middle East killing even more people--NONE of the things that would have made us really safer were done. Not that I ever heard of. They don't really want us safer; they need this backburner tool of a new explosion or gods know what else to remain possible.

Hopefully I'm wrong about that, and they really are just incompetent. I don't know which would be scarier.

16. Dr. Ward Casscells
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 09:59 AM by seemslikeadream
I read this on the internets:

Consider for example Dr. Ward Casscells, a renowned cardiologist that has of late become an "expert" in bioterrorism. Even more recently, Dr. Casscells joined the Army as a colonel. According to the US Defense Department, "his years of research on now-spreading avian flu are now deemed cutting edge." However, I know of no independent credible scientific body that makes the same assessment: Dr. Casscells has written a total of four papers on the effect of influenza on cardiac disease which have been cited by no other scientists. His paper "Influenza as a bioweapon" has a grand total of 5 citations, meaning a mere 5 other papers refer to it; "cutting edge" scientific papers have hundreds or thousands of citations. His only other paper on the subject, "Influenza as a bioterror threat: the need for global vaccination" has zero citations.

Nonetheless, Dr. Casscells' outstanding credentials as a scientist will be invoked by the administration if he vouches for the credibility of "intelligence" indicating that a dangerous mutated bird flu virus has been developed in an Iranian underground bioweapons laboratory. Dr. Casscells has been surveilling the Middle East to "scope out the possibility for a widespread outbreak" of bird flu. Because he has been advocating the view that "Bird flu is poised to be an explosive problem" and has predicted the use of influenza as a bioweapon, he is likely to be inclined to believe such claims. Similarly his scientific colleagues at the "Defense of Houston" committee, that work on anticipating bioterrorism threats and are highly lauded by the administration and very well funded by Army grants.
