Sensenbrenner and Frist credited for mobilizing Latino activism
Lawmakers did Latinos a big favor
By Richard Gonzales
Special to the Star-Telegram

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist should be flooded with thank-you notes from Latino leaders and Democrats after Latinos nationwide were mobilized to march for comprehensive, compassionate immigration reform. The members of Congress, through their hunt-them-jail-them-boot-them-block-them immigration proposals, have galvanized Latino immigrants and activists.

Sensenbrenner's and Frist's fear-mongering have roused U.S. citizens and the undocumented to take a careful look at this country's view of immigration. Is immigration a path to the American Dream or the American Nightmare? The immigration fight has awakened Latino youths and adults from their political somnolence.

Throngs of Latino youths walked out of schools and descended boldly on the main streets of Dallas and Fort Worth, shouting "Viva Mexico!" and waving U.S. and Mexican flags. A school of the streets was in session, with teens teaching parents how to raise their heads and voices. A few parents among them nodded approvingly and said that their children made them proud.

They were motivated by well-placed insults, especially at the undocumented parents of children born in this country..

This is what the GOP is good for anymore- mobilizing activists! :kick:

2. if the shoe fits, wear it.
Stirring up racial animosity is a lot worse in my book than, oh the horror, flying a flag.

3. Interesting take. I wish the anti-war movement could mobilize so many
thousands to take to the streets. And the Impeachment movement. Maybe soon.

6. Bush has mobilized a lot of us to become activists already
I think if there were more pictures of the horrors of war shown in the media there would be a reaction.

4. Keep in mind the source of the article: Pro-big bus., Pro Open Border
north Texas newspapers.

And BTW, when Americans find offense as Mexican flags are prominently displayed at a protests inn American cities it isn't racism that angers Americans. It is nationalism.

SO STOP INSERTING RACE AS AN ISSUE WHEN IT IS NOT.
