China and Its President Greeted by a Host of Indignities
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/20/AR2006042001946.html

Chinese President Hu Jintao got almost everything he wanted out of yesterday's visit to the White House.

He got the 21-gun salute, the review of the troops and the Colonial fife-and-drum corps. He got the exchange of toasts and a meal of wild-caught Alaskan halibut with mushroom essence, $50 chardonnay and live bluegrass music. And he got an Oval Office photo op with President Bush, who nodded and smiled as if he understood Chinese while Hu spoke.

If only the White House hadn't given press credentials to a Falun Gong activist who five years ago heckled Hu's predecessor, Jiang Zemin, in Malta. Sure enough, 90 seconds into Hu's speech on the South Lawn, the woman started shrieking, "President Hu, your days are numbered!" and "President Bush, stop him from killing!"

Bush and Hu looked up, stunned. It took so long to silence her -- a full three minutes -- that Bush aides began to wonder if the Secret Service's strategy was to let her scream herself hoarse. The rattled Chinese president haltingly attempted to continue his speech and television coverage went to split screen.

"You're okay," Bush gently reassured Hu.

But he wasn't okay, not really.

2. I'll be watching very close to see what happens if Bush visits China again
That could get real interesting.

And I bet our US media will not report on what happens.

Sun Tzu "Art of War"

Just a whisper of no confidence in US dollars and they taking step

They wont be inviting bush over

Nothing about feeling being hurt
All about good manner
and intentional insult

It is very plain what kind of relationship US wants with China
I think the SLOW GRIND will satrt after this

13. I was thinking about that relationship thing.
What does this tell the Chinese? To me it says that they are not worthy of a state visit. We don't value our relationship.

It's just terrible. You don't treat your guests like that.

Forget how they feel. We acted terribly. I wouldn't want our people treated like that. Why not a state visit? What's the deal with that?

4. It bothers me how the media portray this as "embarrassing"
Like as if our "leaders" should be in some bubble where they never, ever, ever have to hear what regular people have to say. I'm glad the woman got in and said her peace.

I want LESS security around these people, not more. If it puts them at some risk, so be it. The people are entitled to access to these thugs.

My jaw dropped when he GRABBED the guy's arm and pulled him the other way, then gave him a patronizing pat on the back. POS Bush has no idea of how to treat dignitaries with respect.

Somehow is just shout out "Diplomatic nuclear disaster"
But since bush is CIC he wont know how to handle it from here
So shits happen

10. The entire episode was embarrassing.
It was a mess. Why wouldn't they give them an state visit? What's the deal with that? You should respect your guests even if you don't agree on anything. Otherwise don't invite them. This is terrible.

16. It was the village idiot in action, today.
Sadly though, a powerdrunk group of infantile people, may have fooled some in this country, diplomacy is conducted in a very grown-up world.

Every action has a reaction.

How much longer are we going to let these pedomorphs run this country?

19. Thank you, Oversea Visitor.....
I respect your opinion on this, and I'm sure there will be consequences for the US over this.

I'm only sorry that the consequences will fall on those who dislike our president, instead of falling ON the president. He and his family have so much money, AND A GREAT DEAL OF IT INVESTED IN CHINA, that they will not suffer. Only the American people will suffer.

But that's what happens when we allow corporations to steal our elections, and put crazy people in the office of the president. I'm afraid we're all going to feel the pain of NOT having a revolution the minute we knew the election had been stolen.

would be a massacre. It's not minute men vs. redcoats, both sides equally armed - it's the people against an out of control Federal Establishment that's armed to the teeth. Fat chance of success.

18. What Oversea Visitor said...
...we just locked ourselves in with a tiger, poured "tasty sauce" on ourselves, and started poking the kitty with a very pointy and very short stick.

If that cat thanks us by dumping a couple "brazillion" USD on the international market in favor of Euros, Pesos, and ANYTHING BUT US DOLLARS we'll have "George of the Jungle" to thank.

This was a diplomatic disaster of the highest import.

Diplomacy requires a panoply of nuanced and evolved qualities and discliplines...all of which the entirety of the Bush Administration (most especially Bush himself) utterly lack.

Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 04:45 AM by Dunvegan
...for a number on a t-shirt.

The woman who protested aloud regarding Falun Gong must have been allowed to do so.

Since George likes sticking vocal Christianity sects to sectarian governments, I can see the whole thing being "let her protest on purpose."

That, and George is hyper-sensitive about avoiding at all costs even having to see even one anti-Administration protester for his entire stint in office. If George had wanted to keep the lid on protests, the jar would have been sealed air-tight.

This woman was arrested in Malta a few years back for yelling the same shit at Hu's predecessor. There is NO FUCKING WAY that she wasn't known to WH security. They let her go off on Hu for 3 minutes. The entire world watched as a petulant belligerent Bush embarrassed and bullied his fucking BANKER! Bush wants to bomb Iran to hold China at bay as a growing power and threat to US economic interest.

Kids I think we just witnessed Arch Duke Ferdinand get assassinated. Hang on.

30. Damn. Is the *hole-in-Chief trying to turn EVERYONE against us?
You don't have to be a fan of the policies of a nation or of its leader, but only a boor insults a guest, and that's what Bush did to Hu, over and over and over.

The question is: why?

:wtf: was Bush trying to accomplish with this asinine behavior? One thing might have been an accident, two things might have been clumsiness -- but all of this put together is a deliberate insult. To a country that is holding an inordinate amount of our debt. To a culture that is very touchy about "face."

God, would You please make * go away? Please? :banghead:
