4,200 Ford Workers Take Buyout, Early Retirement Deals
POSTED: 3:11 pm EDT April 24, 2008
UPDATED: 3:14 pm EDT April 24, 2008

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Ford said its latest buyout and early retirement offers have been accepted by 4,200 hourly workers.

That's only about half as many as the automaker was said to be aiming for, so it raises the possibility of layoffs.

Ford has about 8,000 hourly employees in Ohio, mostly at plants in the Cleveland and Cincinnati areas.

The numbers released Thursday indicate that about 8 percent of the 54,000 United Auto Workers employees who were offered the deal took it. That means Ford could offer more packages to workers at selected factories.
