Does anyone else here find it EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE?
Edited on Sun May-18-08 05:55 AM by Earth Bound Misfit
I hadn't noticed the ads at the bottom of some of the threads in the Labor forum for "The Burke Group" and other "Union Avoidance" firms until today. This from Wikipedia:

The Burke Group (TBG Labor for short) is a Malibu based American management consultancy, established in 1982. It is the largest management consultancy for "union avoidance and preventative industrial labor relations." TBG offers advice to employers and services on keeping workplaces "union free", also known as the practice of union busting.

Does anyone else here find it EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE to have ads for such "consultants" displayed on a LABOR FORUM?

Edit for grammar

1. Now that you have educated us-Yes I do find that offensive.
I don't know what the rules for this are, but the democratic pary has historically supported unions.

2. You can get rid of the Ads by

... donating, or by using FF with AdBlock.

I expect that DU has no control of the ads served, which are generated by an ad-server by keywording from a page's content.

But are you really interested in union busting? - if so read about how Quantas (The Ozzie Airline) broke a strike before it even started:

Qantas' strike breakers

QANTAS has devised a secret plan to smash the influence of a powerful airline union, with strike breakers being offered $100,000 for just six months work as aircraft engineers ...

Qantas engineers back down on industrial action

Qantas engineers have backed down from planned industrial action, indicating they will accept a smaller increase to a wage demand...

Coincidence, or cause and effect?

5. Thank You---The check is in the mail...
As far as my interest in union busting, I am a dealer in Atlantic City who is very much involved in trying to bargain a first contract with the UAW being our bargaining rep. Our employer is using all the textbook "union avoidance" techniques.

Thanks for the link--an excellent example demonstrating the lengths to which companies will go in order to "bust" a union.

Coincidence? I think NOT.

3. I do. If you repost this to GD we can keep kicking it and .....
... more DUers will see it.

In Labor, I'm guessing there is not much traffic right about now.

6. Its a problem on my site too
I had and still do have some of those ad's through Google on my site, I started blocking them and now I get like 10 cents a click, the union avoidance ones must be paying heavy cash for the advertising, I think it would be better if we just clicked away at those ads and make them pay. Even though most of mine have been weeded out.But thats just from my cookie on my computer, for all I know they are all over the place still.

As far as offensive, of course, but if we didn't see the lengths they are willing to go, we wouldn't know.

8. Thats an inside joke between me and the powers against...
...truth and the labor movement, let's see if I can did up the article. In a nutshell it was originally created in the same manor in which true anti-union sites portray themselves as actual union information sites, like "freedom at work", "center for union facts", the entire blurb I made can be found at http://anti-union.blogspot.com/2008/01/anti-union-blogging.html">Anti-Union blogging, adding more misinformation for the masses.

You wouldn't believe the traffic I receive for searches like "Non-union construction", "H1B Visa News", etc.

Thanks for the kind words,
Joe

10. Flip-Flopper! LOL
Using the word OFFENSIVE may have been the wrong term to use in my OP, perhaps ANNOYING would have been a better portrayal of how these ads affected me. But you're right, if by clicking these ads HELPS this and other forums FINANCIALLY--I'm gonna be a "Clickin' FOOL" :silly:
