Ex-med center employee accused of time card fraud

A former Nebraska Medical Center employee is accused of stealing about $450,000 from the hospital by padding her time cards for more than eight years.
Jayne Weber, 46, of Omaha was indicted in federal court Friday on four counts of wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Authorities said Weber, who worked as a surgical technologist, used the hospital's telephone time-keeping system to claim more hours than she actually worked between January 1998 and October 2006.
According to the indictment, Weber knew she was inflating her work hours to gain a larger paycheck.
She could not be reached for comment.
The alleged scheme allotted her about an extra $56,000 a year in addition to her regular pay. "That's a lot of money over a long period of time," said U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher.
Officials from the Nebraska Medical Center were unavailable for comment. It was not known how long Weber had worked at the hospital.
Weber was not taken into custody. In the federal system, people accused of non-violent crimes who are not considered a flight risk usually are not jailed before a trial. She faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
