ROME —

Rome police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the death of a Parish man who was found dead at the Family Dollar Warehouse.

Police said 20-year-old Bruce L. Lewis was found pinned beneath an overhead door of a semi-trailer when they responded to the call at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Perimeter Road facility.

Oneida County Coroner Kevin Barry pronounced Lewis dead at the scene.
Rome Detective Commander Tim Bates said Lewis was sent to the site by his company Northeast Great Dane, which is based in Syracuse. He arrived at the plant some time around 10 a.m.

“Family Dollar subcontracts with Northeast Great Dane for repair on cargo trailers,” Bates said. “He was there to fix a broken cable on the door of the back end of a tractor-trailer.”

Bates said the exact time of death is uncertain.

“We’re still working on a timeline,” he said.
