Si Se Puede! Victory at Kirschenman Enterprises. Workers Finally Get $50,000 Back Pay Settlement

Thank you, thank you. After nearly 5 months of waiting, Kirschenman Enterprises has paid the $50,000 back pay settlement to the three workers for their unfair discharge. The workers finally received their checks yesterday and credit the support of the UFW and their supporters as a huge reason the settlement was finally paid to them.

You might remember the Lamont table grape company, Kirschenman Enterprises, had agreed back in October to pay $50,000 to farm workers Martin Magana, Flavio Becerril and Sotero Berrelleza to settle charges for firing them for concerted activity. However, once the settlement was agree upon orally, the company never signed the settlement agreement or provided the ALRB with the check.

Thousands responded and contacted the company and told them to play by the rules and give the workers the money that was agreed upon. Our voices were heard.

Farm worker Flavio Becerril said, "I feel very grateful that after such a long time we have finally won. I thank all those supporters and UFW staff that helped me either thru email or the Radio Campesina program."

Farm worker Martin Magaña added, "I feel very good because I know many workers that still work at the company who made fun of us that we could not win and had no hope of ever changing things. My father still works for the company and this will serve as an example that farm workers have rights as well. I urge everyone to believe in what the United Farm Workers is doing for farm workers. I want to thank everyone for helping us win this case.”
