Medford school bus drivers pick Teamsters (90-28)

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — School bus drivers in Medford have voted 90-28 to unionize and join the Teamsters union.

The drivers who serve Medford public school students are employed by First Student, the nation's largest private school bus operator. The drivers join more than 15,300 other First Student employees who have voted for Teamster representation, the Medford Mail-Tribune reported.

Medford drivers have no contract yet. Monthly union dues are equal to about 2.5 hours of pay. The teamsters began a national campaign to organize drivers for private school bus companies in 2006.
