Toyota nixes pay-scale hike, but to pay bonuses worth 5 months' wages

Funny that some Southern Senators wanted the UAW to work for the same wages as foriegn companys pay their workers in Southern non union states. I wonder why they didn't suggest the UAW members get paid what these companies pay their unionized plants back home?

TOKYO, Mar. 17, 2009 (Kyodo News International) -- Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE:TM) and its labor union are expected to strike a deal in this spring's ''shunto'' annual wage talks under which the automaker will not implement a pay-scale hike but will pay bonuses equal to five months' wages plus 100,000 yen, sources close to the negotiations said Tuesday.

The carmaker plans to maintain the current seniority-based wage increase system, they said.

1. 5 months wages and a 1000 yen.....dam
that would be more than the unemployment pay the laid off workers would get in the usa.

we are subsidizing the japanese workers by profits derived from cheap labor costs and state/local tax set asides.

2. If I was paid that every year for 30 years my retirement would be a doozey.
And Japan has national health care? They save more than twice as much as USA citizens? Probably more than twice considering that in 2005 it was determined Americans are at zero percent savings.
