Early last year, Staten Island steelworker Anthony Paino picked up the love of his life in a black limousine and brought her into the city for a Broadway show.

Later that night, inside a Manhattan hotel room, Paino got down on one knee and proposed to Maria DiMicelli, his girlfriend of six years.

Piping through the room was a song with a title that summed up the feelings the young couple had for each other: “I Finally Found a Love for a Lifetime.”

“He was the greatest kid and the love of my daughter’s life,” DiMicelli’s mother, Christine, said Thursday. “Their love story - you couldn’t write it.”

That story ended tragically on Tuesday - four months before the couple was to wed - when Paino, 28, fell to his death while working on the construction of the Gansevoort Park Hotel.

Paino, who was not wearing a safety harness, plummeted 10 stories from the glitzy Kips Bay hotel after he stepped through a flimsy piece of plywood, authorities and witnesses said.

Maria DiMicelli, 27, was still too devastated to speak Thursday.

2. Jesus H. Christ! How are you ever going to approach 100% tie off...
...when a man is allowed to walk steel in plain sight without any harness???
