warned Friday.
Speaking to a crowd of roughly 75 members of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce about what some call the “card check” bill, Tom Donohue said that the federal proposal — which would change union workplace-organizing rules — is a no-compromise piece of legislation. The national chamber will pour money into efforts to defeat any vulnerable senator who backs it, just as unions are likely to do the same for senators who vote against it, he said,
“This is a deal that involves taking names. If you’re going to vote for it, you’re not going to like (our response),” Donohue said. “The battle line is we’re going to play the same game the other guys are going to play. We’re going to play it smarter, and we’re going to put more money into it.”snip
In response to Donohue's remarks, Bobby Clark, executive director of the political group ProgressNow, issued this statement late Friday:
"The U.S. Chamber is wrong about the Employee Free Choice Act. This is an organization that has has consistently fought every effort to strengthen working families. They fought increases in the minimum wage, they opposed the Family Medical Leave Act, and now they oppose giving workers a voice in the workplace. ... Coloradans believe enough is enough and demand the U.S. Chamber -- for once -- stand up for the American Dream they claim to believe in."
