The SEIU regional new media coordinators will manage the online organizing efforts for the union's Change that Works campaign. Coordinators will be each be responsible for managing the online operations of several states to meet local organizations' needs and assist in national objectives. You will be plugging in the internet to every aspect of traditional organizing.
Description:

Duties include

* Integrate online organizing tools into day-to-day efforts of field organizing staff, from signup forms and tell-a-friend tools to letters to the editor and call campaigns.

* Run local online advertising campaigns

* Collect relevant local news and post online

* Build relationships with local online communities

* Produce online content (photos, videos, blog posts) that document efforts of field organizers and volunteers

* Introduce new online contacts into local messaging streams & organizing efforts

* Work with local staff in organizing offline events, involving online communities in the process

* Ensure data integrity of email lists

* Maintain websites of local campaign efforts

* Reports regularly on metrics

Email Advocacy / Campaigns / Messaging

* Plan and implement online advocacy and fundraising campaigns (incl. managing vendors and other staff).

* Write content for action campaigns and email messages.

* Maintain email wrappers and action pages.

* Manage email lists and databases (with help from other staff).

* Regularly report on performance of online advocacy efforts.

* Word with International Union New Media Department to push regional work to national audiences as applicable.

Online Marketing & Outreach


* Create and implement online marketing plans for advocacy campaigns, events, and publications.

* Cultivate relationships with bloggers and online communities.

* Develop strategies for paid and viral list growth (with help from other staff and outside vendors)
Qualifications:

Education and Experience

One to three years experience in online organizing. Some field organizing experience preferred. Other abilities include:

* Experience implementing strategy on campaigns, including organizing, political, and legislative

* Through knowledge Internet technology for communication, education, and advocacy

* Knowledge of building online audiences and communities

* Knowledge of unions, the labor movement, and their mission and objectives

* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent writing and editing skills required.

* Ability to effectively use Internet communication tools.

* Proactive problem solving skills and the ability to work independently – and flexibly – in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Experience

* Basic HTML coding

* Experience with online advocacy and fundraising applications (we use Blue State Digital)

* Experience analyzing web reports, trends, traffic, etc.

* Experience optimization of graphics for the web.

* Data management skills desirable

* Online marketing and advertising experience a plus.

* Web video experience a plus

1. Good luck with that clarion call
I'm in Western PA and have 80 something parents to take care of. If it weren't for that, I'd do the job for 1/3 the pay.

Steve, I'm glad you keep us informed on labor issues. I think you and uhc help keep me sane. It's good to wake up to post's that mean something to us "working class stiffs"

Thanks for being there and keeping us connected. I might not k&r or recommend posts but I do read them all and appreciate the effort.

2. There are now 3-4 regulars that post such good info

It wasn't that long ago I was doing most of what was posted. Now when I'm busy or away, I don't worry that nothing will get posted anymore. :-) We are a growing team here.
