EXETER -- On Friday afternoon, drivers with First Student Inc., a school bus company providing service to SAU16, voted to join Teamsters Local 633 citing poor health insurance, favoritism within the company and a lack of respect.
The final tally was 62 in favor in forming the union and 32 opposed.
“For me, it’s just knowing I have someone else I can go to to back me up if there’s an issue or a conflict with the front office,” said driver Deb Bolton. “First Student is such a large company and it’s nice to know we have an equal backing against the company.”
Nicole Jones, spokesperson for First Student, said previously the company has a policy which allows employees to choose whether or not they want to have union representation.
